Leonida is the fictional American state in which Grand Theft Auto VI is set, officially presented by Rockstar Games as a fictionalized version of modern-day Florida. It stretches from the dense metropolitan sprawl of Vice City in the south through island chains, wetlands, a fading port town, and an industrial interior, up to a national park on the state's northern border. The state gives the series its first return to the region since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) portrayed its 1980s incarnation.
Official regions
When Rockstar refreshed the official GTA VI website alongside Trailer 2 in May 2025, it named six regions, and a July 2026 audit of the site found exactly six live region routes. The regions are Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. See the six confirmed regions of Leonida for Rockstar's official descriptions of each.
Size
Rockstar's only official statement on scale is qualitative: GTA 6 is described as the studio's largest and most detailed open world. No official map or size figure has been published. Every specific number in circulation, whether the 200-plus square kilometres derived from trailer frame analysis or mapping-project multipliers of roughly 1.5x to 2.7x GTA 5, is a fan estimate, and the estimates do not agree with one another.
The Gloriana theory
Vehicles in official footage carry "Gloriana" license plates, distinct from Leonida's Florida-style plates. The plates are confirmed footage; the popular reading that Gloriana is a Georgia-parody second state bordering Leonida is fan speculation. The theory gained attention when the parody domain visitgloriana.com, which has redirected to Rockstar's official site, was reportedly bought from its registrant for roughly $2,000 in late 2025 and moved to Markmonitor, the registrar that manages Rockstar's domains, per Dexerto's January 2026 reporting. Even that outlet advised caution, and no playable second state has been confirmed.
"The Leonida" easter egg
In January 2026, a dataminer surfaced a partially-unused boat texture in Red Dead Redemption 2's files listing a ship named "The Leonida". The texture is documented and verifiable; the theory that Rockstar planted it around 2018 as a deliberate early tease for GTA 6 is fan interpretation, since a name can simply be reused.
