The GTA 6 Xbox Store Has Not Changed Since 2 July

by 6Charts Team Category: news 12 min read

We pulled every GTA VI record from Microsoft's public catalog API. All seven were last modified on 2 July. Here is the timestamp evidence, why the 9998-12-30 release date is ordinary store plumbing rather than a delay signal, and why the "150GB confirmed" file size pieces are citing nothing at all.

There is a genre of Grand Theft Auto VI story that arrives every few days: the store listing has changed, and the change reveals something. It is a good genre, because storefront data is real and public and occasionally does reveal things. It is also, right now, checkable in about ten seconds, and the check comes back the same way every time. Every one of the seven GTA VI products in Microsoft's public catalog was last modified on July 2, 2026. All seven, inside a 35 minute window. Nothing on the Xbox side has moved in five weeks. The timestamps CONFIRMED, our own retrieval on August 7, 2026. Microsoft publishes a catalog API at displaycatalog.mp.microsoft.com that anyone can query without a key or an account, and every product record it returns carries a LastModifiedDate. Here is the complete GTA VI product family with those stamps, all UTC: 9NNZSNHLR63L, Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition. 2026-07-02T17:17:00.2249825Z 9PN4LLBR8RCH, Ultimate Edition Upgrade, a durable. 2026-07-02T17:21:23.6807891Z 9P3H4968GRSM, Grand Theft Auto VI, the purchasable standard edition. 2026-07-02T17:28:40.3472297Z 9NLKHF63GL52, "Extra", a durable. 2026-07-02T17:37:49.6156572Z 9PLVSSH8849X, Vintage Vice City Pack, a durable. 2026-07-02T17:37:51.9201534Z 9P5FT3MT0M01, "Story", a durable. 2026-07-02T17:37:55.1223906Z 9NL3WWNZLZZN, Grand Theft Auto VI, the base catalog entry. 2026-07-02T17:51:35.7922728Z 17:17 to 17:52 on a single afternoon. That is one publishing pass, done in one sitting, five weeks ago. What that means in practice: if a claim tells you the Xbox Store was updated this week, or that a fresh datamine of the Microsoft catalog turned something up in August, the claim is checkable against a field Microsoft itself publishes, and it currently fails. You do not have to take anyone's word for it, including ours. The API takes one request. We want to be careful about who we are accusing of what. We did not read an article claiming a fresh August Xbox datamine, so we are not naming one. What we are publishing is the test, and the current answer, so that the next time one appears you can run it yourself. There is an adjacent version of the same problem worth flagging. Several outlets this week (our researcher sampled tunigamers.com and games.gg) referred to unspecified "backend changes to the GTA 6 website" as a signal that something was coming. UNVERIFIED. None of the ones sampled specify what changed, when, or how it was observed, and our researcher could not reproduce any such observation. A change claim that does not say what changed is not a finding. Seven products, one publishing pass, thirty five minutes, five weeks ago. The 9998 date, and why it is not a delay Here is the single most screenshot-friendly value in the whole catalog, and we would rather explain it now than debunk it later. CONFIRMED. The base product 9NL3WWNZLZZN carries "OriginalReleaseDate":"9998-12-30T00:00:00.0000000Z". Somebody is eventually going to crop that string, put it on a dark background, and caption it "GTA 6 delayed indefinitely". So, plainly: 9998-12-30 is the Microsoft catalog sentinel for "no date set". It is what the field contains when nothing has been entered into it. It appears on all sorts of products that are not delayed and never were. Two facts from the same retrieval kill the reading outright. First, the two products people can actually buy carry the real date. 9NNZSNHLR63L and 9P3H4968GRSM both read "OriginalReleaseDate":"2026-11-19T05:00:00.0000000Z". That is midnight Eastern on November 19, which is the date Rockstar has published all along. Second, 9NL3WWNZLZZN is not a purchasable product at all. Its availability actions are Details, License, Browse, Curate, Fulfill and Redeem, and Purchase is not among them. It is a non-purchasable parent record, the sort of plumbing entry a store keeps so the buyable SKUs have something to hang off. An empty date on an entry nobody can buy is ordinary bookkeeping. No storefront publishes a file size, so the "150GB confirmed" pieces are citing nothing The same catalog data settles a second recurring claim. CONFIRMED, Xbox. Across all seven GTA VI products, PackageSize and MaxDownloadSizeInBytes are None on every purchasable SKU. There is exactly one size value anywhere in the family: MaxDownloadSizeInBytes 344731648, which is 328.76 MiB, attached to a package on the non-purchasable base entry. That is roughly one five hundredth of any plausible install for a game of this scale. It is a stub, and reporting it as GTA 6's download size would be worse than reporting nothing. CONFIRMED, PlayStation. We searched the full 501,772 character payload of the PlayStation Store concept page for GTA 6, case insensitively, for the string "fileSize". Zero occurrences. Sony is not publishing a size either. So when an article tells you the install size was confirmed via a storefront listing, there is no listing behind it. REPORTED: gta6index.com published "GTA 6 Official File Size Revealed" on July 2, 2026, authored by its "GTA6Index Research Team", which we read on August 7, 2026. It claims players will need "over 150 gigabytes of free space on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S", and it says, verbatim: "The official GTA 6 file size was confirmed via a listing on digital storefronts, according to reports." It links to no storefront listing. It attributes to "reports". The site's own disclaimer describes it as "an independent fan site not affiliated with Rockstar Games". UNVERIFIED: the wider 150 to 200 GB range. Every aggregator our researcher sampled derives the number the same way, by extrapolating from Red Dead Redemption 2 at 150 GB and GTA V at 95 GB. That is estimation, and estimation is fine right up until it gets printed with the word "confirmed" attached to it. Storefront size fields typically populate around the preload window. Nothing about that is confirmed for GTA 6, we found no size in any record we read, and we are not going to name a date for when one might appear. The prices have not moved either The timestamps say nothing changed. The prices agree with them. CONFIRMED, our own sweep of 21 markets on August 7, 2026, reading the Purchase availability on the standard edition, the Ultimate Edition and the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Every market returned the values we expected, with no anomalies, which is what a catalog that has not been touched in five weeks should look like. A sample of the rows, in each market's own currency: United States: 79.99 USD standard, 99.99 USD Ultimate, 20.00 USD upgrade. United Kingdom: 69.99 GBP, 89.99 GBP, 20.00 GBP. Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands: 79.99 EUR, 99.99 EUR, 20.00 EUR. Japan: 9,800 JPY, 12,280 JPY, 2,480 JPY. Australia: 129.95 AUD, 159.95 AUD, 30.00 AUD. Canada: 109.99 CAD, 139.99 CAD, 30.00 CAD. Brazil: 449.90 BRL, 549.90 BRL, 100.00 BRL. Korea: 89,800 KRW, 112,800 KRW, 23,000 KRW. In all 21 markets checked, standard plus upgrade equals the Ultimate Edition exactly. We covered the US version of that finding separately when the upgrade price first appeared, and this is the international extension of it rather than a new discovery. We are not converting any of these to dollars. Our researcher has no dated exchange rate for August 7, 2026 and will not invent one, so there is no cheapest-market ranking in this article and there should not be one anywhere else without sourced, dated rates. A price existing in a market is also not the same thing as it being buyable by someone outside that market, and we have covered regional purchase restrictions and code region locking separately. Nothing here implies you can arbitrage a price list. One more field that has not moved. Every Purchase availability in every market carries the identical window: StartDate "2026-06-25T04:00:00.0000000Z" and EndDate "2026-11-19T04:59:59.0000000Z". That start is midnight Eastern on June 25, which matches the day Rockstar opened pre-orders. The end is 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern on November 18, so the pre-order window closes the instant the game launches. What is in the entitlement list, and what we will not guess Briefly, because we have written about this before and the point here is that it has not changed. The complete set of durables attached to GTA VI as of August 7, 2026 is still Story, Extra, Vintage Vice City Pack and Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Story and Extra are bundled into both purchasable editions. Both of them carry an empty ShortDescription and an empty ProductDescription. There is nothing in the data that tells you what either one gates. We are not going to speculate that "Extra" means a multiplayer component or anything else, because the record does not say and inventing a meaning for an empty field is how bad leaks start. Five weeks on, it is the same four durables with the same empty descriptions. And no, there is no Steam page One more single-request check, since we were in the neighbourhood. CONFIRMED, August 7, 2026: Steam's storefront search API returns five Grand Theft Auto results, and they are GTA V Enhanced, GTA IV Complete, and the San Andreas, Vice City and GTA III Definitive Editions. There is no GTA VI entry. A search for "grand theft auto vi" returns a single result, and it is Vice City Definitive Edition matching on the word "Vice". That is consistent with everything Rockstar and Take-Two have published about a console launch. It also means any "a GTA 6 Steam page has appeared" claim is falsifiable in one request, which is the theme of this entire article. What we confirmed and what we did not Confirmed (our own retrieval, August 7, 2026): all seven GTA VI products in Microsoft's public catalog carry LastModifiedDate values on July 2, 2026, between 17:17:00 and 17:51:35 UTC. Product IDs and exact stamps are listed above. The API is public, requires no key, and the check is re-runnable by anyone. Hedge, stated plainly: LastModifiedDate reflects modification of the catalog record. We cannot rule out Microsoft altering a field without bumping it, though we have not seen that happen. Scope limit: we timestamp-swept the US market only. Prices matched expected values in all 21 markets checked, which is consistent with no recent change, but we did not verify LastModifiedDate market by market. Not accused of anything: we did not read an article claiming a fresh August Xbox Store datamine, and we are not naming one. We are publishing the test and today's answer. Unverified, and labelled so: the "backend changes to the GTA 6 website" reports our researcher sampled at tunigamers.com and games.gg. None specify what changed, when, or how it was observed, and none could be reproduced. Confirmed: base product 9NL3WWNZLZZN carries OriginalReleaseDate "9998-12-30T00:00:00.0000000Z", the Microsoft sentinel for no date set, while both purchasable SKUs carry "2026-11-19T05:00:00.0000000Z". The base entry exposes Details, License, Browse, Curate, Fulfill and Redeem and never Purchase, so it is a non-purchasable parent and the empty date is ordinary store plumbing rather than a delay signal. Confirmed: PackageSize and MaxDownloadSizeInBytes are None on every purchasable Xbox SKU. The only size value in the family is 344731648 bytes on a package attached to the non-purchasable base entry. The PlayStation Store concept payload contains zero case-insensitive occurrences of "fileSize" across 501,772 characters. Reported: gta6index.com, "GTA 6 Official File Size Revealed", published July 2, 2026, claiming "over 150 gigabytes" and stating that the size "was confirmed via a listing on digital storefronts, according to reports", with no link to any listing and a fan site disclaimer of its own. Unverified: the 150 to 200 GB range generally. Sampled aggregators derive it by extrapolating from Red Dead Redemption 2 at 150 GB and GTA V at 95 GB. No primary source for any GTA 6 install size existed as of August 7, 2026. Deliberately absent: a preload date. Storefront size fields typically populate around preload, but we found no preload field in any record we read and no Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft statement of one, so we name no date. Confirmed: the 21 market price sweep, in which standard plus upgrade equals the Ultimate Edition in every market, and the identical Purchase window StartDate "2026-06-25T04:00:00.0000000Z" and EndDate "2026-11-19T04:59:59.0000000Z" in every market. Explicitly refused: currency conversion. We have no dated exchange rate for August 7, 2026 and will not fabricate one, so this article contains no dollar equivalents and no cheapest-market ranking. Regional purchase eligibility is a separate matter and no arbitrage is implied. Confirmed, and unchanged: the four durables attached to GTA VI are Story, Extra, Vintage Vice City Pack and Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Story and Extra carry empty ShortDescription and ProductDescription, so we do not know what they gate and we decline to guess. Confirmed: Steam's storefront search API returns no GTA VI entry, only the five existing Grand Theft Auto titles. Background, not re-reported: our earlier coverage of the Xbox entitlement list, the US Ultimate Edition upgrade price, GTA 6 shipping as a single player experience, and regional code locking. We will re-run the LastModifiedDate check whenever a store-change claim turns up, and we will say so loudly if the stamps actually move, because that would be genuine news rather than a recycled listing. Those checks go on our news page, and if you are already thinking past launch day, our servers list is where to look next.
