The Leonida Boat
An RDR2 boat texture names a ship 'The Leonida', matching GTA 6's state. The texture is real; the idea Rockstar planted it as a tease is speculation.

Eight years before anyone could visit Leonida, the name was already in Rockstar's files. Dataminer SonekaSpeedrums discovered a partially-unused boat texture in Red Dead Redemption 2 listing a set of ship names, one of them "The Leonida". GTA leaker GameRoll surfaced the find more widely in January 2026, and TheGamer (January 31, 2026), Dexerto and the Daily Dot all reported it.
The documented part
The texture is a real asset in RDR2's files, and the name match is exact: GTA 6 is set in the fictional State of Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida. A ship called The Leonida in a 2018 Rockstar game reads, to many fans, like a breadcrumb planted years before the reveal, and the timing predating GTA 6's announcement is what fuels the hunt.
The speculative part
Intent is the open question. The planted-tease theory, that Rockstar deliberately seeded a GTA 6 nod during RDR2's development, is a fan reading. A simpler explanation cannot be ruled out: RDR2's files may just be where the Leonida name first appeared in Rockstar's writing, attached to a ship with no forward-looking plan, and reused later. Both readings fit the same evidence, and nothing from Rockstar settles which is correct. Fans lean toward the tease because Rockstar's reputation for detail makes long-term planning easy to credit, but that inclination is enthusiasm, not evidence.
The healthy way to hold finds like this: enjoy the documented texture, keep the meaning loose. It sits in the datamined wing of the easter egg catalogue alongside Sahara Surveillance and the on-screen RDR2 currency finds.
