Rockstar has announced no online mode for GTA 6. Everything on this page is reporting, leaks or datamining, and it is labelled accordingly.
The reporting
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has reported that Rockstar plans a significant online mode for GTA 6. That is journalism from a credible reporter, not a Rockstar announcement; the studio itself has emphasised the single-player launch.
The timing claim, and why it is weak
In April 2026, leaker TheGhostOfHope said he was "hearing from someone that the current plan for GTA 6 is to launch online within a month after the release," which would land around December 2026. Treat it cautiously: he built his reputation on Call of Duty leaks, GTA is outside his usual beat, and the claim is secondhand. The same leaker suggested the successor's creation tools could be powerful enough to "produce millionaires," drawing comparisons to GTA 5 roleplay servers. Both claims are unverified.
Sold separately, and story DLC
Dataminer Tez2 has suggested the online mode may be sold separately from the base game, and has separately reported plans for episodic single-player story expansions with new cities. Both are insider reports, not announcements, though GTA Online and Red Dead Online were each sold as standalone products at various points, so the shape is familiar.
The entitlement datamine
On July 22, 2026, dataminers found four entitlement entries on the live Xbox Store listing: "Story", "Ultimate Edition Upgrade", "Vintage Vice City Pack" and an unexplained "Extra". GTA BOOM argued entitlements are ownership records rather than downloads, read the "Story" entry as implying separation from something unnamed, and still cautioned that mystery store entries "almost always turn out crushingly boring." A day later, GameRant drew the opposite conclusion from the same data, reading it as online being packaged into the main game hub. Two competent outlets, same entries, contradictory readings; the contradiction is the honest finding. No entitlement named "Online" exists, and nothing here indicates whether the mode would be free, paid, at launch or later. Background is in our multiplayer explainer.
