Analysis

No official GTA 6 spec sheet exists, so the technical picture is assembled from expert reads of official footage. Rockstar's single hard claim is that Trailer 2 was captured in-game on a base PS5; see our full technical breakdown.

Resolution and frame rate

Digital Foundry's current read, via RockstarINTEL, is roughly 1440p upscaled to 4K at 30fps. An earlier DF piece put the internal figure at about 2560x1152 (roughly 1152p) upscaled to 4K; the 1440p reading is the newer of the two, and both are Digital Foundry estimates rather than Rockstar figures. GameSpot independently confirmed the trailer ran at 30fps. DF does not expect a 60fps mode at launch, a question covered on the performance modes page.

Lighting and interiors

Per Digital Foundry, the game uses fully ray-traced global illumination, ray-traced reflections on smaller water, and screen-space reflections on large water, glass and plastic. DF's Oliver Mackenzie also flagged screen-space shadows on NPCs, and said Rockstar appears to use ray tracing or a parallax technique to fake three-dimensional rooms behind windows. HotHardware's analysis of the hidden website flyover (Chris Harper, June 21, 2026) lines up: 4K/30fps output, ray-traced global illumination, modeled interiors, and a bayside Ferris wheel casting no water reflection, which the outlet reads as a distance limit on ray-traced reflections.

Modeled is not enterable

One distinction keeps getting lost: modeled or parallax interiors visible through windows are a rendering trick that makes rooms look real from the street. They are not the same thing as fully enterable buildings, and neither HotHardware's nor DF's read supports the "walk into everything" claims.

Frame-by-frame details

Community analysis of more than 5,000 trailer frames adds smaller finds: coins in cash-register drawers rendered with each coin moving independently, and visible body-hair rendering on characters. These are fan observations of official footage, not Rockstar statements. More of the lighting stack sits under ray tracing and RAGE engine.
