Age Rating Status

No ESRB or PEGI record was published as of August 2026, a normal timing gap, while a truncated storefront badge fed a false 'confirmed M' chain.

Normal for a November release

As of August 3, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI has no published record in the ESRB or PEGI public databases. That is "not published", not "not rated": publication can lag assignment, and ratings for major releases routinely land one to three months before launch, so an unpublished record in August for a November 19 game sits comfortably inside normal practice. Nothing here says anything about a delay or the release date.

Three storefronts, three strings

Xbox's listing shows "RATING PENDING LIKELY MATURE 17+", PlayStation US shows an "ESRB Rating Pending Mature 17+" badge, and Rockstar's own site shows only a plain Rating Pending disclaimer with no qualifier. By the ESRB's own ratings guide, RP-LM17+ means content "Not yet assigned a final ESRB rating but anticipated to be rated Mature 17+", appearing only in advertising, marketing and promotional materials: a marketing placeholder, not a rating.

Where the "confirmed M" claim came from

The misinformation chain is traceable, and a hedge disappeared in about 24 hours. Around May 8 to 11, 2026, Sony emailed PS4 owners who had wishlisted the game, promoting a PS5 upgrade with ESRB-style Mature 17+ marking. The account GTAVI_Countdown posted that PlayStation had "seemingly confirmed" the age rating, hedge intact. Within about a day, GameGPU rendered it as flat fact, writing that Sony "confirmed" an ESRB M rating, in an article that conceded further down that Rockstar's site "still lists the project as pending review". Circulating PEGI 18 figures are extrapolation from series precedent; nobody in the chain claimed to have seen a PEGI record.

The widely quoted Australian MA 15+ rating is a separate matter entirely: it is a 2023 forgery (see the Australian rating forgery).
