Cfx.re is the team behind FiveM and RedM, which makes it the team behind almost all of GTA and Red Dead community multiplayer.

From adversary to subsidiary

The relationship with Rockstar started as open conflict. In 2015 Rockstar described FiveM as an "unauthorized alternate multiplayer service" and claimed it contained code designed to facilitate piracy. Eight years later, in August 2023, Rockstar and Take-Two acquired the team outright. CEO Strauss Zelnick summed up the reversal in 2026: "How about if instead of trying to beat them, we join them?"

What Cfx.re runs today

  • The Cfx Marketplace, launched January 12, 2026: a curated, Rockstar-sanctioned storefront for paid FiveM and RedM creations, covered on the marketplace page.
  • FiveM for GTAV Enhanced, in early access since July 21, 2026: the next-generation client rebuilt on a client-server model, covered on the Enhanced page.
  • A public bug tracker: with Enhanced, bug intake moved to the citizenfx/rfc repository on GitHub, described by Cfx.re as "a centralized place for the community to report bugs, discuss findings, and increase visibility on known problems across Cfx products." A publicly readable backlog is a first in the platform's history.

The consolidated landscape

Under Take-Two's platform licensing, rival clients alt:V and RAGE:MP were shut down across 2026, leaving Cfx.re's platforms as the only authorized route into GTA V multiplayer modding. On GTA 6, Cfx.re has said nothing at all: no product, no timeline, no statement connecting Enhanced, the Marketplace or anything else to the new game.
