2026 produced a steady stream of fake Grand Theft Auto VI leaks, and the pattern of how each fell apart is a study in verification. The one genuine incident of the year, the ShinyHunters breach, was not a gameplay leak at all.

The documented fakes

The "poin of interest" clip: an early-2026 video claiming to show the game running on a television drew hundreds of thousands of views before viewers spotted on-screen text reading "poin of interest", a typo Rockstar's polished interface would never ship.

Why leaks dried up

YouTube reporter Reece "Kiwi Talkz" Reilly, who builds his channel on interviews with former Rockstar developers, said in February 2026 that "Rockstar currently is locked up like Area 51", and relayed insider claims that Rockstar uses a canary trap, seeding varied details to fingerprint leakers.
