Map Size

Rockstar has published no map size figure — only 'largest and most detailed open world'. All multipliers, interior counts and tree tallies are fan estimates.

Rockstar has never published a size figure for GTA 6's map. Its only official statement on scale is qualitative: Leonida is the studio's largest and most detailed open world to date. Every square-kilometre or square-mile number in circulation is a fan estimate, and the estimates do not even agree with each other.

The fan numbers, labelled

  • Trailer-frame analyses have estimated a playable area of more than 200 square kilometres, roughly 2.5 times GTA 5's approximately 81 km².
  • One mapping project covered by Sportskeeda pegs Leonida at about 2.55x GTA 5; other analyses, including Mithrie's, put the landmass at 1.5x to 2x Los Santos.
  • Square-mileage guesses run 60 to 80 square miles of land, or 100 to 120 once waterways are included.

The ranges disagree because this is estimation, not measurement. None has been validated by Rockstar.

The State of Leonida project

The most ambitious community effort is the GTA VI Mapping community — a Discord of more than 16,000 members led by a member known as YANIS — which built the interactive map at map.stateofleonida.net, reaching version 13 on 24 June 2026. It combines official trailers, more than 60 pre-order screenshots and leaked RAGE-engine coordinates from the 2022 leak used for triangulation, cataloguing roughly 1,441 landmarks, 42 leak-based markers, 50 trailer locations and 37 screenshot matches. Members self-assess the broad layout at 95 to 98 percent accurate — a confident estimate that cannot be verified until launch.

Other counts to hold loosely

The claim of more than 700 enterable interiors comes from leak-era reporting, not Rockstar, and remains unconfirmed. The famous count of roughly 14,287 trees in a single official screenshot is fan analysis — a grid overlay and pixel estimation, "give or take a couple hundred" by the counter's own admission — and the derived "4x RDR2 foliage" multiplier is extrapolation stacked on an estimate.

What is confirmed is density rather than dimension: trailer footage shows a major NPC crowd leap on Vice City beaches, and Trailer 2 was captured in-engine on PS5. The full comparison is in GTA 6 vs GTA 5: map size and density; for confirmed geography see Leonida.
