Love Is a Long Road is the song that introduced GTA 6 to the world. Trailer 1, released in December 2023, was built around this single needle-drop from Tom Petty's 1989 solo record, and Petty's guitar work under the opening shots of Vice City did a lot of the reveal's heavy lifting. Petty, one of America's defining heartland-rock songwriters, remains one of the few musical choices Rockstar has effectively locked in through official material.

The commercial effect was immediate and measurable. According to Spotify figures reported after the trailer, streams of the song rose roughly 36,979 percent. That number comes from reported streaming data rather than Rockstar, but it demonstrated the pull a single GTA trailer has on a decades-old catalogue track, a pattern repeated even more dramatically when Hot Together led Trailer 2 and spiked roughly 182,000 percent.

The track's placement also set the tone template the marketing has followed since: era-appropriate needle-drops over Leonida imagery rather than contemporary chart singles, a deliberate throwback register for a game so tied to the Vice City era. The trailer it soundtracked went on to hold the Guinness record for the most viewed game reveal trailer on YouTube in 24 hours, at 90,421,491 views.

Within the confirmed soundtrack, this remains the only Trailer 1 song, and one of just seven tracks total that can be verified simply by watching Rockstar's own videos.
