The most viral number was fabricated. A screenshot claiming GTA 6 would require 676.7GB spread in late June 2026, and Insider Gaming traced it on June 24 to @GameJoker_, an account whose own bio identifies it as a parody gaming-news account, with the post appearing around June 23. The image carried classic tells:

What the real size might be

Coverage discussing the topic suggests a rough range of about 150GB to 300GB at launch, plus a likely day-one patch. That is explicitly an estimate. Publishers usually confirm download sizes only a few weeks before launch, so a firm number was never realistic this far out; when Rockstar publishes one, that is the figure to plan storage around.

Why it matters at the cheap end

The Xbox Series S 512GB is the cheapest entry point to GTA 6 at $579.98 with the Standard Edition, and it is also the console with the least room.
