78 Days Out, GTA 6 Still Has No Rating Anywhere

by 6Charts Team Category: news 9 min read

We have published on all of this before, on 27 August, 8 August and 31 July, and we would rather say so at the top than dress a repeat visit up as a discovery. This is a re-check with today's timestamps and a 78-day countdown as the peg, and every finding came back unchanged. The one item that is new to our coverage is the upgrade asymmetry: the standalone Ultimate Edition Upgrade reads Unavailable on PlayStation while the same product sells for $20.00 on Xbox. The Wayback index refused us at 403 and then reset the connection, so no historical diff was possible and nothing here is a before-and-after. Four ratings boards we could not reach are listed with their status codes rather than counted as nulls, and we do not infer a Korean certificate from a Korean price.

Grand Theft Auto VI is 78 days from release and it does not have an age rating in any jurisdiction we can check. We have written about this before, more than once, and the reason we are writing about it again is that nothing has moved. This piece is a re-check, and we would rather say so at the top than dress a repeat visit up as a discovery. On 27 August this desk published on the pending rating and the empty descriptor list. On 8 August we published on the Xbox catalogue not having changed since 2 July. On 31 July we published on the pre-order country gap between PlayStation and Xbox. Every one of those findings was re-run this morning against fresh requests, and every one of them came back the same. The news here is the absence of change, measured against a countdown that keeps running. The ratings, re-run at 03:03 to 03:13 UTC on 2 September ESRB: no certificate exists. A search of the ESRB's public database at 03:03:43 UTC returns ten certificates for Grand Theft Auto titles, all pre-existing, with the newest being the Grand Theft Auto V record. There is no Grand Theft Auto VI certificate. Separately, the board's own most-recently-issued endpoint, queried at 03:03:05 UTC, returns the ten newest certificates against a total of 34,154, with identifiers running from 40897 to 41585. Grand Theft Auto VI is not among them. One honest caveat on that second check: that endpoint ignores the keyword parameter entirely, which our researcher established by running it with four different search-type values at 03:03:21 UTC and getting identical results each time. It is a latest-certificates feed, not a search, and we are using it only as such. PEGI: a literal "No results found", against a control that works. Searching PEGI for Grand Theft Auto VI at 03:03:28 UTC returns HTTP 200, 42,734 bytes, and the string "No results found". Ninety seconds later, at 03:04:59 UTC, the identical search for Grand Theft Auto V returns HTTP 200, 45,116 bytes, and "Found 6 results from your query", listing six PEGI 18 rows registered to Take2 Interactive Software Europe ltd across Xbox Series X and S, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The search works. Grand Theft Auto VI is simply not in the database. USK: no entry. The German board's search at 03:13:20 UTC returns HTTP 200 and 26,084 bytes, and every row it returns is a Vice City title matched on the substring, including the Definitive Edition classified on 7 September 2021. There is no row whose title begins Grand Theft Auto VI. Both storefronts still say pending. The two PlayStation Store product pages, fetched at 03:02:19 UTC at 442,568 and 472,142 bytes, both carry the rating object with the description "ESRB Rating Pending Mature 17+" and the code ESRB_RP17. The Xbox consumer page, read at 03:10:36 UTC, carries the alt text "RATING PENDING LIKELY MATURE 17+" on its first image. Rockstar's own pages carry no rating at all, only the placeholder line "May contain content inappropriate for children. Visit esrb.org for rating information.", observed on the main product page, the media page and the Extended Look page. The boards we could not reach, listed rather than counted as nulls. Australia's Classification database failed on four separate attempts with protocol-level errors, so we can say nothing about the Australian classification either way. Brazil's DEJUS consultation URL returns 404 and we did not check it. Korea's ratings board homepage loads but its search path returned HTTP 400 and we did not resolve it, and although a Korean price is live on the Xbox store, which would normally imply a rating exists, we did not verify a certificate and we are not reporting one. Epic's store page returned HTTP 403 and is a failure, not a null. The storefront freeze, re-measured CONFIRMED, from Microsoft's public catalogue endpoint at 03:05:25 and 03:09:56 UTC. All four Grand Theft Auto VI products report a last-modified date of 2 July 2026 or earlier: The Grand Theft Auto VI umbrella product: 2 July 2026 at 17:51:35 UTC. The Ultimate Edition: 2 July 2026 at 17:17:00 UTC. The Ultimate Edition Upgrade: 2 July 2026 at 17:21:23 UTC. The Vintage Vice City Pack: 2 July 2026 at 17:37:51 UTC. That is two months without a single metadata change on the Xbox side. No price change, no capability change, no package update, nothing. We published this finding on 8 August when the gap was five weeks. It is now nine weeks. The one caveat we have to keep repeating. Every "unchanged since" statement above rests on the server's own last-modified field, not on archived snapshots. The Wayback Machine's index refused us twice today, once at HTTP 403 with the body "Blocked by egress policy" and once with a connection reset, so no historical diff of any kind was possible this session. Nothing in this article is a before-and-after comparison, and if you see one attributed to us, it is not ours. You still cannot pre-order the Standard Edition on Xbox CONFIRMED across fourteen markets at 03:09:56 UTC, all HTTP 200: US, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Australia, Canada, South Korea, India, Mexico, Poland, Turkey, Russia and Argentina. On the Standard Edition product, across every availability on every one of the three SKUs, the list price and manufacturer's price are both 0.0, and the actions array contains only combinations of Details, Browse, Curate, Fulfill, Redeem and License. The word Purchase never appears, in any market. The consumer page carries no price and no pre-order button, and renders its whole gallery as locked thumbnails. The Ultimate Edition, by contrast, is purchasable in thirteen of the fourteen. Its window runs from 25 June 2026 to 19 November 2026 and its store page prints a release date of 11/19/2026. The prices, read this morning: 99.99 USD, 89.99 GBP, 99.99 EUR, 12,280 JPY, 549.90 BRL, 159.95 AUD, 139.99 CAD, 112,800 KRW, 7,499 INR, 1,879 MXN, 429 PLN, 4,999 TRY and 141,990 ARS. Russia is the exception: not purchasable. The caveat that keeps this honest. We cannot tell you whether Xbox Standard Edition pre-orders were ever live and were pulled, or were never enabled at all. That is exactly the question a historical snapshot would answer, and the archive refused us. Report this as observed state, not as a removal. We are not writing that Microsoft took anything down, because we do not know that. The upgrade asymmetry, which is new to our coverage One thing here is not a repeat. On PlayStation's own features page, read at 02:59:59 UTC, the standalone Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition Upgrade for PS5 is listed under Pre-Order as Unavailable. The same product on Xbox carries a list price of $20.00 and a live availability window. The same page states the Standard Edition at $79.99, bundling the game, the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+, and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, which is the Standard plus the Upgrade. So the component Sony is not currently selling is the difference between the two editions it is selling. We have no explanation for that and neither storefront offers one. For completeness on the same page: "PS5 Pro Enhanced", "1 player", "Offline play enabled", "Remote Play supported", Tempest 3D audio, DualSense vibration and trigger support, "In-game purchases optional", and the flat line "The game is not playable on PlayStation 4." Still no PC, still no Steam Two more nulls with today's timestamps on them. Rockstar's own product page, read at 02:59:08 UTC, lists exactly two platforms, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with the badge "Plays Best On PlayStation 5", and prints the release date "November 19, 2026" seven times. Steam's own store search API, queried at 03:00:53 UTC, returns a complete response of 418 bytes containing exactly one match, and that match is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, The Definitive Edition. There is no Grand Theft Auto VI app on Steam. Epic we could not check, as above. What a pending rating does and does not mean It means the boards have not published a certificate. It does not mean the game is unrated in the sense of having been refused, and it does not by itself indicate a problem, a delay or a dispute. Ratings for large titles are routinely issued in the final weeks, and a Rating Pending placeholder is the correct state for a product that has not yet been through the process. What is worth noticing is the pairing. A storefront that has not been touched in two months, a Standard Edition with no purchase path in any market we checked, no certificate at three boards and a placeholder on both first-party stores, all 78 days out from a fixed date that has itself not moved anywhere. Each of those facts is ordinary on its own. We are printing them together because we have now watched all of them stay still for nine weeks. What is and is not established CONFIRMED as negatives, re-run this morning: no ESRB certificate, a literal "No results found" at PEGI against a control search that returns six rows, and no USK entry. CONFIRMED: both first-party storefronts still show a pending rating, at ESRB_RP17 on PlayStation and "RATING PENDING LIKELY MATURE 17+" on Xbox, and Rockstar's own pages carry only the esrb.org placeholder line. CONFIRMED: all four Xbox products report a last-modified date of 2 July 2026 or earlier, which is nine weeks of no change. CONFIRMED: the Standard Edition has no Purchase action in any of fourteen markets checked, while the Ultimate Edition is purchasable in thirteen of them, Russia excepted. CONFIRMED: the PlayStation Ultimate Edition Upgrade reads Unavailable while the same product on Xbox is priced at $20.00. Explicitly not claimed: that Microsoft removed anything. We could not obtain a historical snapshot, so this is observed state and not a change. Explicitly not claimed: that a pending rating signals a problem, a delay or a dispute of any kind. Explicitly not claimed: a Korean rating. A Korean price exists, we could not resolve the ratings-board search, and we are not inferring a certificate from a price. Prior coverage, named: we published on the pending rating on 27 August, on the 2 July catalogue freeze on 8 August, and on the pre-order country gap on 31 July. This is a re-check of all three with today's timestamps, not a new finding. Method limits printed as limits: the Wayback index refused us at 403 and then reset the connection, so no diff was possible; Australia's board failed four times out of four; Brazil's URL is dead; Korea's search returned 400; and Epic returned 403. The full record of what is confirmed about the release, the editions and the platforms is on the wiki, with the rest of today's checks on the news desk. Seventy-eight days is a long time to refresh a storefront, so the servers list and the leaderboards are probably a better use of an evening.
