GTA V Legacy Ranks 8 and Enhanced 23, With the Higher Peak
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news8 min read
Every figure was fetched by this desk's editor. Valve's GetMostPlayedGames endpoint answered HTTP 200 at 6,889 bytes at 2026-09-25T03:17:44Z with rollup_date 1790208000, giving appid 271590 at rank 8 and peak_in_game 65,331 and appid 3240220 at rank 23 and peak_in_game 72,752. The same response disproves the obvious reading of the rank column: rank 4 is appid 431960 at a peak of 108,913 while rank 5 is appid 1867240 at 271,926, a peak 2.50 times larger at a lower rank, which is this desk's own arithmetic off Valve's own rows. GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers samples in the same round returned player_count 26345 for 271590 and 41126 for 3240220, both quoted verbatim. This desk's own arithmetic supplies the 11.36 per cent and 10.20 per cent peak comparisons, the live factor of 1.56, the 60.95 per cent share, the 15 rank position gap, and the movement against this site's 24 September piece of 20.90 per cent on Enhanced, 7.39 per cent on Legacy and 2.85 percentage points on the share. The copy states that Valve does not document the ranking metric, that the two peaks must not be added because they need not have occurred at the same moment, that quoting 65,331 alone as the GTA V peak is wrong, that Steam counts the PC playerbase only and forecasts nothing about GTA 6, that FiveM sessions cannot be separated out, and that rollup_date is printed as Valve supplies it.
On Valve's own most played chart, Grand Theft Auto V Legacy sits at rank 8 with a peak of 65,331 and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced sits at rank 23 with a peak of 72,752. Enhanced is fifteen positions lower with the higher peak, which means the rank column on that chart is not a player count ordering. Live, Enhanced is ahead: 41,126 players against 26,345.
Two things follow from that, and the second one is a correction to this site's own reporting from yesterday. Both are below, with the exact responses behind them.
The chart response
CONFIRMED. This desk's editor fetched https://api.steampowered.com/ISteamChartsService/GetMostPlayedGames/v1/ and received HTTP 200 at 6,889 bytes at 2026-09-25T03:17:44Z. The response carries a rollup_date field of 1790208000. That is a Unix timestamp Valve supplies, and this desk is printing it as given rather than interpreting it as a calendar day, because Valve does not document what window it bounds.
The two Grand Theft Auto rows in that response:
BuildappidRank on Valve's chartpeak_in_game
Grand Theft Auto V Legacy271590865,331
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced32402202372,752
This desk's own arithmetic on those two rows: Enhanced's peak is 11.36 per cent above Legacy's. Put the other way round, Legacy's peak is 10.20 per cent below Enhanced's. Enhanced sits 15 rank positions below Legacy while holding the larger peak.
The rank column is not a player ordering, and the same response proves it
CONFIRMED from the same 6,889 byte response. Rank 4 is appid 431960 with a peak of 108,913. Rank 5 is appid 1867240 with a peak of 271,926. The lower-ranked entry has a peak 2.50 times larger, which is this desk's own arithmetic off Valve's own rows.
So whatever the ranking is, it is not peak concurrent players. Valve does not document what it is. This desk is not going to guess: the responsible thing is to say that the rank column cannot be read as a player-count ordering and to quote the peak figures separately, which is what this article does. Anyone who has written "GTA V Enhanced has fallen to 23rd" as a statement about its playerbase has read a field that does not mean that.
Live players, sampled
CONFIRMED. From https://api.steampowered.com/ISteamUserStats/GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers/v1/, this desk's editor's samples at 2026-09-25T03:17:44Z, both bodies quoted verbatim:
appid 271590: {"response":{"player_count":26345,"result":1}}appid 3240220: {"response":{"player_count":41126,"result":1}}
This desk's own arithmetic: Enhanced leads Legacy by a factor of 1.56 and holds 60.95 per cent of the two-build total at that timestamp.
Correcting this site's own figures from yesterday
On the 24 September cycle this site published gta-5-enhanced-passes-legacy-steam-concurrents-34016-24531-fivem-migration, with Enhanced at 34,016 and Legacy at 24,531, an Enhanced share of 58.10 per cent. Those figures were a single sample and this site printed them as such. Today's editor samples are 41,126 and 26,345, a share of 60.95 per cent.
Figure24 September cycle25 September, this desk's samplesChange, this desk's own arithmetic
Enhanced live players34,01641,126up 20.90 per cent
Legacy live players24,53126,345up 7.39 per cent
Enhanced share of the two builds58.10 per cent60.95 per centup 2.85 percentage points
Every figure in the right-hand column is this desk's own arithmetic against this desk's own two samples. Nothing in yesterday's piece was wrong about the numbers it printed. What this correction adds is that a one-day gap moved the Enhanced share by nearly three percentage points, which is a useful warning about how much weight a single concurrent-players sample can bear. It cannot bear much.
Two mistakes to avoid with these numbers
First, do not quote Legacy's 65,331 peak on its own as the Grand Theft Auto V peak. Enhanced's peak in the same response is higher, at 72,752. Legacy is the more familiar appid and the higher rank, which is exactly why the wrong figure travels.
Second, do not add the two peaks together. 65,331 and 72,752 are peaks for two separate applications and the two peaks need not have occurred at the same moment. Summing them produces a number that describes no actual instant, and calling that a franchise peak would be an invention. This desk is stating that rule rather than quietly following it, because the sum is the first thing a reader is tempted to compute.
Why the two builds split at all
Legacy and Enhanced are two separate Steam applications for the same game, so a player is counted in exactly one of them. That is the mechanical reason the franchise's Steam population now shows up as two rows instead of one, and it is the reason any comparison against pre-split figures needs care.
The migration between them is a live story on this site, and FiveM's move to the Enhanced build is part of it. This desk has covered that in the asset escrow migration piece and in the 2048 player server coverage. What this article adds is only the arithmetic above, measured today.
Limits, and what this desk could not check
Steam counts the PC playerbase only. Console players do not appear in any figure above.
Nothing here forecasts Grand Theft Auto VI numbers. There is no announced PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. Using GTA V's Steam concurrents to project a GTA VI launch would require a platform that has not been announced, and this desk is not doing it. With 55 days to 19 November 2026, which is this desk's own arithmetic, that gap is worth stating plainly.
FiveM sessions land inside these counts and cannot be separated from vanilla play. A rise in either row could be roleplay traffic, vanilla traffic, or both, and this desk cannot split them from the outside.
rollup_date is printed above exactly as Valve supplies it. This desk did not convert it into a calendar day, because the field's meaning is undocumented and a conversion would imply a precision that is not there.
Both live samples are single instantaneous readings taken in one round trip. Concurrent player counts move continuously. Anyone quoting 41,126 or 26,345 tomorrow is quoting a historical figure from 2026-09-25T03:17:44Z and should say so, which is the lesson of the correction in the middle of this article.
Finally, the ranking metric remains unknown. This desk proved what it is not, using Valve's own adjacent rows, and made no attempt to reverse engineer what it is.
