Correction: PEGI Has Rated Modern Warfare 4, So Our Control Fails
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news8 min read
THIS CORRECTS A CORRECTION THIS DESK PUBLISHED. Batch 66 ran correction-pegi-zero-is-publication-lag-esrb-seven-descriptors-usk-59715-and-59552 and argued that PEGI's empty GTA VI result was probably publication lag, resting on a control: that PEGI also returned zero for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. PEGI HAS RATED THAT GAME. It sits at PEGI 18 for Activision Blizzard UK Ltd with a release date of 23/10/2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and it is THE FIRST OF 94 RESULTS for the query Call of Duty, read 2026-10-27T03:06:58Z at HTTP 200 and 288,726 bytes, with consumer advice reading that the PEGI 18 restricts availability to adults only because it features violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters and graphic violence. SO THE LATEST OBSERVABLE PEGI RELEASE DATE IS 23/10/2026, NOT 3 SEPTEMBER 2026, which is the second half of the correction. WHY THE EARLIER QUERY RETURNED ZERO: THE REGISTERED TITLE CARRIES EMOJI-STYLE REGISTERED-TRADEMARK GLYPHS, so the literal spelling does not match, and that exact query re-run at 03:06:58Z at 223,351 bytes still returns Found 0 results. THE ZERO WAS A PROPERTY OF THE QUERY, NOT OF THE DATABASE, and the publication-lag framing must not be re-run. PEGI listed an Activision title within days of its 23 October release while carrying nothing for a game shipping 19 November, and WHETHER THAT IS TIMING OR A PENDING RATING IS NOT ESTABLISHED IN EITHER DIRECTION. ALL TEN QUERIES ARE PRINTED: Grand Theft Auto VI, Theft Auto VI, Auto VI, GTA VI and Take2 each return 0 results, Grand Theft Auto returns 51, Call of Duty returns 94, GTA returns 4 and Rockstar returns 5, all at HTTP 200 at 03:06:58Z and 03:08:24Z, and THE NEWEST TAKE-TWO RECORD IN PEGI IS GRAND THEFT AUTO V DATED 15/03/2022. SEVEN ESRB DESCRIPTORS, NOW PROVED STRUCTURALLY: certificate 41627, read 2026-10-27T03:06:22Z at HTTP 200 and 62,505 bytes, carries a schema.org keywords field holding EXACTLY SEVEN comma-separated items, namely Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, with a contentRating of Mature 17+ and a publisher of Rockstar Games. IN-GAME PURCHASES APPEARS ONLY IN THE PROSE AFTER THE WORDS ALSO INCLUDES AND IS ABSENT FROM keywords. THE CONTROL PROVES IT IS A RULE: certificate 41459, read 03:06:58Z at 64,671 bytes, carries four keywords and adds Users Interact and In-Game Purchases in prose, splitting the same way. A CROSS-BOARD SIGNAL: the ESRB lists GTA VI ON PLAYSTATION 5 AND XBOX SERIES ONLY WITH NO PC, while its Call of Duty control lists Windows PC alongside three consoles, and USK agrees with EXACTLY TWO CERTIFICATES AND NO THIRD, 59715/26 for PlayStation 5 with a Pruefdatum of 13.10.2026 and 59552/26 for Xbox Series with a Pruefdatum of 13.09.2026, both at keine Jugendfreigabe gemaess Paragraf 14 JuSchG, both published by Take-Two Interactive GmbH with Kennzeichnungsgruende of Drastische Gewalt, Drogen and Kriminelle Rollenbilder, read 03:08:57Z at HTTP 200 and 280,744 bytes across a page stating 19 Titel und 0 Webpages gefunden. USK ALSO FILES IN-GAME PURCHASES AS AN ADDITIONAL FEATURE RATHER THAN A CONTENT REASON, which corroborates the seven-not-eight count from a second regulator on a second continent. LIMITS: NO ESRB RATING DATE IS PUBLISHED because neither page carries one, so this desk cannot say when the certificate was created or changed, and the no-change reading is rated MEDIUM for want of a dateModified or a byte-level snapshot; the GTA VI page carries no narrative rating summary where the control carries a full paragraph, and whether it was ever present is unknown; THE PEGI FINDING ESTABLISHES EXISTENCE AND NOT TIMING, reads the public consumer search only, and ratings are routinely issued before they appear there, so NOTHING HERE ESTABLISHES THAT GTA VI HAS OR HAS NOT BEEN RATED BY PEGI; no third USK certificate can be ruled out; NO NATIONAL RATING OUTSIDE ESRB AND USK WAS CHECKABLE, with the Australian board failing three times on an HTTP/2 INTERNAL_ERROR, an empty reply and a 25 second timeout, Korea's GRAC resetting the connection, Brazil not attempted and Japan's CERO reachable at HTTP 200 with no usable index, while USPTO trademark search returned HTTP 404. RETRIEVAL METHOD: rockstargames.com/robots.txt names ClaudeBot and disallows it site-wide so this desk did not read that host and every Newswire statement is secondary and attributed, one researcher's disguised fetch of it was excluded along with the four findings resting on it, no Rockstar media assets were retrieved because none remain to retrieve, store.rockstargames.com is a separate permitted host read directly, and sec.gov and the Wikimedia API were given the declared user agent 6Charts News Desk [email protected].
This article corrects a correction this desk published. Batch 66 argued that PEGI's empty result for Grand Theft Auto VI was probably publication lag, and rested that argument on a control case: that PEGI also returned zero for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. PEGI has rated that game. It sits at PEGI 18 for Activision Blizzard UK Ltd with a release date of 23/10/2026 on four platforms, and it is the first of 94 results for the query "Call of Duty", read at 2026-10-27T03:06:58Z, HTTP 200, 288,726 bytes. The control fails and the framing does not run again. Separately, the ESRB's seven content descriptors are now proved structurally from the rating page's own machine-readable field.
Correction: the control case does not hold
Batch 66 ran correction-pegi-zero-is-publication-lag-esrb-seven-descriptors-usk-59715-and-59552. Two statements in it are refuted.
"PEGI also returns zero for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" is wrong. The record exists in full, with publisher, rating, four platforms and consumer advice. PEGI's own text on the record reads: "This game has received a PEGI 18 which restricts availability to ADULTS ONLY ... because it features violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters and graphic violence." The platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, each dated 23/10/2026.
"The latest release date in any pegi.info record is 3 September 2026" is wrong. The latest observable release date is 23/10/2026, four days before this piece.
Why the earlier query returned zero: a search-string artefact. The registered title carries emoji-style registered-trademark glyphs, so the literal spelling "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4" does not match it. That exact query, re-run at 03:06:58Z, HTTP 200, 223,351 bytes, still returns "Found / 0 results / No results found". The zero was a property of the query, not of the database.
What this costs the earlier argument is specific. PEGI listed an Activision title within days of its 23 October release while carrying nothing for a game shipping 19 November. The publication-lag explanation is therefore no longer supported by a control, and this desk does not assert it. Whether PEGI's silence is timing or a genuinely pending rating is not established in either direction.

All ten queries, including the punctuated Call of Duty spelling above, were read at HTTP 200 at 2026-10-27T03:06:58Z and 03:08:24Z. The 51 Grand Theft Auto results are all catalogue titles, published under Take2 Interactive Software Europe ltd, and the newest Take-Two record in PEGI's public database is Grand Theft Auto V dated 15/03/2022.

Seven ESRB descriptors, proved from the page's own structured data
ESRB certificate 41627 was read at 2026-10-27T03:06:22Z, HTTP 200, 62,505 bytes. The page's schema.org VideoGame node carries a keywords field holding exactly seven comma-separated items: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol. The node's contentRating reads "Mature 17+", its publisher is Rockstar Games, and its gamePlatform array reads PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
In-Game Purchases appears only in the prose, after the sentence break, introduced by the words "Also includes". It is absent from keywords. Anyone counting eight has folded an interactive element into the descriptor list.
The split is proved to be a rule rather than an accident by a control with the same structure. Certificate 41459, read at 03:06:58Z, HTTP 200, 64,671 bytes, carries a keywords field of four items, Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language and Use of Drugs, while its description adds "Also includes Users Interact and In-Game Purchases". Two interactive elements, kept outside the field by the same rule. Seven is the number and it is now structural rather than counted by eye.
Two boards on two continents list no PC version

The USK search was read at 2026-10-27T03:08:57Z, HTTP 200, 280,744 bytes, stating "19 Titel und 0 Webpages gefunden", and a pattern sweep for five-digit certificate numbers returns exactly those two. The English path returns the same two at 202,791 bytes. Both cards carry Take-Two Interactive GmbH as publisher, a genre of Genremix, Kennzeichnungsgruende of Drastische Gewalt, Drogen and Kriminelle Rollenbilder, and In-Game-Kaeufe filed as a Zusatzfunktion. The Xbox Series certificate predates the PlayStation 5 one by a month.
Two observations follow and both are worth carrying. First, no PC certificate exists on either board, and the ESRB's own platform array lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series while its Call of Duty control lists Windows PC alongside three consoles. That is a cross-board signal and not a Rockstar statement. Second, USK files in-game purchases as an additional feature rather than as one of its three content reasons, exactly as the ESRB keeps it out of keywords, which independently corroborates the seven-not-eight count from a second regulator on a second continent.
Limits
No rating date is published for the ESRB certificate, because nothing on either ESRB page carries one, so this desk cannot say when the record was created or last changed. The "no change" reading is rated MEDIUM for the same reason: the page carries no dateModified and no byte-level snapshot from the prior cycle exists. One absence is recorded without explanation: the Grand Theft Auto VI page carries no narrative rating summary, only the one-line descriptor sentence, where the control page carries a full paragraph. Whether it was ever present is unknown.
The PEGI finding establishes existence, not timing. It does not establish when PEGI published the Modern Warfare 4 record. It reads the public consumer search only, and PEGI ratings are routinely issued before they appear there, so a rating can exist without a public record. No PEGI statement, no administrative database access and no comment from PEGI or Take-Two was obtained. Nothing here establishes that Grand Theft Auto VI has or has not been rated by PEGI.
No third USK certificate can be ruled out, only that none is published to that search index, which USK updates on its own schedule. The USK PDF certificate register and the IARC feed were not checked.
What could not be read, with status codes. No national rating outside ESRB and USK was checkable this cycle. The Australian Classification Board failed three times with an HTTP/2 stream INTERNAL_ERROR, then an empty reply over HTTP/1.1, then a 25 second timeout at 0 bytes. Korea's GRAC reset the connection on both URLs tried. Brazil was not attempted within this cycle's budget. Japan's CERO is reachable at HTTP 200 and 56,856 bytes but publishes by approval batch and no usable index page was located. USPTO's trademark search returned HTTP 404 with an S3-style NoSuchKey body at 290 bytes, so no trademark filing was checked.
Retrieval method, disclosed. rockstargames.com/robots.txt names ClaudeBot and disallows it site-wide, so this desk did not read rockstargames.com this cycle and every Newswire statement in this batch is secondary and attributed. One researcher's disguised fetch of that host was excluded from publication along with the four findings that rested on it, and no Rockstar media assets were retrieved this cycle because none remain to retrieve. store.rockstargames.com is a separate host that permits us and was read directly. sec.gov and the Wikimedia API were given the declared user agent "6Charts News Desk [email protected]". The ratings boards are tracked cycle by cycle in the news index, and the server list carries the communities organising around launch.
