Four GTA 6 Xbox Records Rewritten Inside 28 Minutes, in 27 Markets

The limit on this story is printed before the evidence rather than after it, because it governs everything: LastModifiedDate records a write to the catalogue record, not a change a shopper would see, and this desk held no field-by-field snapshot to diff against. We say the record was rewritten. We do not say Rockstar changed the listing. What can be shown is that Microsoft's own storefront search returns zero GTA VI products on three queries while the GTA V Enhanced control returns first on all three, so the four products exist in the catalogue and are suppressed from search. Also recorded: a sentinel release date of 9998-12-30 on the two unpurchasable products, a trailing space in the publisher string on two of the four, and the 344,731,648 byte package figure, which is a stub with a zero install size and an empty package name. The PlayStation comparison is spiked this batch over an unreconciled title identifier.

On 16 September 2026, between 17:01 and 17:29 UTC, all four Grand Theft Auto VI product records in Microsoft's catalogue were written to. The four timestamps are 27 minutes and 54.0156 seconds apart from first to last, and they are identical in all 27 markets this desk queried. You still cannot buy the Standard edition in any of those 27 markets. And Microsoft's own storefront search returns zero GTA VI products on three separate queries, while the control returns first every time. The four timestamps, to the tick CONFIRMED. Source is the Microsoft DisplayCatalog endpoint, displaycatalog.mp.microsoft.com/v7.0/products, queried with all four big identifiers at once. HTTP 200 on every market. The US call was made at 2026-09-17T03:03:57Z and the other 26 at 03:04:53Z. The global part is the part that is new. The 27 markets queried were US, GB, DE, FR, JP, BR, AU, CA, IT, ES, NL, PL, SE, MX, KR, HK, TW, SG, IN, ZA, AE, TR, RU, SA, NO, DK and FI. Every one returned HTTP 200, every one returned four products, and every one reported NotFoundItems: None. Response bodies ran from 161,721 bytes for the United Arab Emirates to 204,312 bytes for Russia. Across all 27 markets there are exactly four distinct LastModifiedDate values, the four above. This is one write to a shared record, not 27 regional edits. This desk covered a 42 minute rewrite window on 2 September. What is new here is a second, later rewrite with a different window length, different timestamps, and the confirmation across 27 markets that the earlier piece did not establish. The limit on all of this, printed before the rest and not after it Read this before you read anything else in this article. LastModifiedDate records a write to the catalogue record. It does not record a change a shopper would see, and it does not say which field moved. This desk did not hold a field-by-field snapshot of all four products from before 16 September, so there was nothing to diff the current state against. So: the record was rewritten. That is the claim. We are not writing that Rockstar changed the Xbox listing, because nothing here shows that, and a product record can be written to for reasons that never surface on a store page. Can you buy GTA 6 on the Xbox store yet? CONFIRMED, as at 2026-09-17T03:04:53Z. The test applied was simple: does any Availability on the product carry the Purchase action. 9NL3WWNZLZZN, the Standard edition: no Purchase action in any of the 27 markets. Every availability is Details, Browse, Curate, Fulfill, Redeem or License only. The US list price returns 0.0 USD. 9PLVSSH8849X, the Vintage Vice City Pack: no Purchase action in any of the 27 either. 9NNZSNHLR63L, the Ultimate Edition: purchasable in 26 of 27, with an OriginalReleaseDate of 2026-11-19T05:00:00.0000000Z and an availability window running from 2026-06-25T04:00:00.0000000Z to 2026-11-19T04:59:59.0000000Z. 9PN4LLBR8RCH, the Ultimate Edition Upgrade: purchasable in 26 of 27, same window, same release date. Russia is the sole market where none of the four carries a Purchase action. It is also the market that returns the largest response body of the 27, at 204,312 bytes. The two products you cannot buy both carry a sentinel release date of 9998-12-30T00:00:00.0000000Z. That is a placeholder value of the kind a catalogue uses when no real date has been entered, not a shipping date in the year 9998. The honest caveat on the purchase test. The absence of a Purchase action is what the catalogue API reports to an unauthenticated caller. A signed-in shopper in a given market could in principle be served something different, and nobody here tested signed in. The products exist and the search index will not show them CONFIRMED, with a working control. Microsoft's storefront search endpoint, storeedgefd.dsx.mp.microsoft.com/v9.0/search, was queried three ways at 2026-09-17T03:03:14Z and 03:03:39Z, all HTTP 200. QueryBytesResultsGTA VI products returned Grand Theft Auto VI88,135120 Grand Theft Auto152,858200 GTA VI103,269150 What comes back instead on the first query is GTA V Enhanced, Sea of Thieves, Fortnite, five Forza Horizon entries, a GTA V bundle and Call of Duty Modern Warfare II. The control is what makes the zeros mean anything. Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced for PC, ProductId 9NXFX68ZNKK0, returns first on all three queries, at $14.99 reduced from $29.99, with an average rating of 4.5 from 828 ratings. The index is alive, it is current, and it does return Rockstar products. The four GTA VI products exist in DisplayCatalog and are suppressed from storefront search. Two small details that prove somebody actually looked CONFIRMED. The publisher and developer strings on all four products read Rockstar Games. On two of them, 9PN4LLBR8RCH and 9PLVSSH8849X, the publisher string carries a trailing space: "Rockstar Games ". On the other two it does not. That is a typing artefact in a live commercial record, it means nothing on its own, and it is exactly the kind of thing that only turns up when someone reads the raw response rather than a rendered page. CONFIRMED as a record, and flagged as a trap. Only one of the four products carries a package at all: the Standard edition, SKU 0017, PackageId 3202719e-b4b4-421c-9f8f-70d1c4a7d60b, with a MaxDownloadSizeInBytes of 344731648. That is 328.76 MiB. It is not the download size of Grand Theft Auto VI. The same record reports a MaxInstallSizeInBytes of 0, an empty PackageFullName and no VersionString at all. A 328 MiB package with a zero install size and no package name is a stub. This desk has already published the correction, and the number is flagged again here only because it sits inside a record that was rewritten yesterday and it will be misread by somebody. What we could not open, and one thread we spiked outright The PlayStation side of this story has been pulled from this batch on purpose. One researcher found the title identifier PPSA01547 on both the US and the Indian PlayStation pages, with 128 occurrences against zero for the identifier this desk published in an earlier batch, on a 361,221 byte page. These are different regional SKUs, we have not reconciled them, and rather than print a number we cannot stand behind we have removed every PlayStation title identifier from this batch. It will come back when it is settled. The failures recorded around it, with statuses and byte counts: PlayStation Store concept page store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/10007705: HTTP 200 but redirected to a store error page carrying widgetErrorType=emptyRequiredBatarang, 66,362 bytes, at 03:05:30Z. A PlayStation Store product URL built from the older identifier: same redirect, 66,418 bytes, same second. The PlayStation Store category page: HTTP 200 at 68,202 bytes and no product identifiers in it at all, because it is a client-rendered shell. store.rockstargames.com/en-gb/game/buy-gta-vi: HTTP 404 at 209,992 bytes. There is no /en-gb/ locale path on the Rockstar Store, so regional price variation could not be tested there at all. rockstargames.com/VI/downloads: HTTP 308 to /VI/media, with a 9 byte redirect body. It is not a page and has been mis-cited as one, including by one of our own researchers, who followed the redirect and reported a 301. The image sourcer recorded 308 and the editor re-ran it without following redirects to settle it. What is and is not established CONFIRMED: four GTA VI Xbox catalogue records carry LastModifiedDate values between 17:01:48.8636662Z and 17:29:42.8793053Z on 16 September 2026, a window of 27 minutes 54.0156 seconds. CONFIRMED: exactly four distinct LastModifiedDate values exist across all 27 markets queried, all HTTP 200, so the record is global rather than per market. CONFIRMED: the Standard edition and the Vintage Vice City Pack carry no Purchase action in any of the 27 markets; the Ultimate Edition and the Upgrade are purchasable in 26 of 27; Russia is the sole market with none of the four purchasable. CONFIRMED: three storefront search queries return zero GTA VI products while the GTA V Enhanced control returns first on all three. CONFIRMED as a record, and a trap: the 344,731,648 byte package figure, which sits alongside a zero install size and an empty package name. Explicitly not claimed: that Rockstar changed the Xbox listing, that anything a shopper can see moved, or that the rewrite relates to the release. LastModifiedDate is a write to the record and nothing more. Method limits: the purchase test is what an unauthenticated caller is shown and nobody tested signed in; the whole PlayStation storefront comparison is spiked for this batch over an unreconciled title identifier; two PlayStation Store URLs redirect to error pages at 66,362 and 66,418 bytes; the Rockstar Store has no regional locale path and returns 404 at 209,992 bytes when you try one. Our running record of what the storefronts actually say sits at the upgrade split piece and the earlier LastModified check. The rest of today's reporting is on the news desk, the standing record is on the GTA 6 wiki, and the servers list and leaderboards are open for the 63 days to release, a count that is this desk's own arithmetic.
