Fifty Nine Days Out, FiveM Is Bigger Than GTA 5 on Steam

by 6Charts Team Category: news 7 min read

A platform snapshot taken inside a nine minute window and published with its timestamps attached to every figure, because a concurrent reading is not a player base. Steam concurrents via GetNumberOfCurrentPlayers at 03:04:49Z: GTA V Enhanced 38,394, GTA V legacy 27,135, combined 65,529, Red Dead Redemption 2 23,234. Twitch concurrent viewers at 03:12 to 03:13Z: Grand Theft Auto V 98,164, read three times in consecutive calls to establish the figure was live rather than cached, against Just Chatting at 194,703. FiveM homepage at 03:10Z: 120,520. GTA V Enhanced was on a live 50 per cent promotion at 14.99 US dollars. The trap is the best part and the researcher who found it says he nearly filed the wrong number: runtime.fivem.net/counts.json returned 297,210 identically across five samples over almost two minutes with a last-modified header more than a year stale, while fivem.net itself said 120,520, and two endpoints tried to disambiguate them both returned 404. A second trap in the same fetch: a naive number regex on the FiveM homepage returned 393,429 and 35,102, which are SVG logo path coordinates and not data.

Fifty nine days before Grand Theft Auto VI arrives, the biggest room in the Grand Theft Auto world is not a Rockstar product in the ordinary sense. It is a modded multiplayer client, and at the instant this desk measured it, it held roughly twice as many people as Grand Theft Auto V on Steam. The 59 day count is this desk's own arithmetic from today's date to 19 November 2026. Everything else below is a machine readable reading taken at a stated second, and every one of those seconds matters, for reasons set out before the numbers. Read this before you quote any number in this article These are single instant readings taken between 03:04:49Z and 03:13:43Z on 21 September 2026. That is the small hours across the Americas and mid morning in East Asia, which is near the daily trough for Western audiences. Every figure here carries its timestamp and none of them is a daily average, a peak or a player base. A concurrent figure counts the people who happen to be connected at one moment. A game with 65,000 concurrent players may be played by many times that number across a day. Anyone converting a number below into a population is doing something this desk did not do and does not endorse. Where is the GTA audience 59 days before launch? CONFIRMED, all read by one researcher inside a nine minute window on 21 September 2026. For scale, Just Chatting held 194,703 viewers at the same instant. The older Grand Theft Auto categories are essentially empty: San Andreas 362, IV 302, the original 265, Vice City 128, III 14 and GTA 2 at 5. Two comparisons, both labelled as this desk's own arithmetic. FiveM's own figure is roughly 1.8 times the combined Steam concurrent count for both Grand Theft Auto V clients. Twitch's viewer count for Grand Theft Auto V is roughly 1.5 times the Steam player count at the same instant. That second one is a comparison between two different things, viewers against players, and is offered as a measure of where the attention sits rather than as a ratio with any deeper meaning. CONFIRMED, the commerce reading. Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced was running a live special promotion at 50 per cent off, 29.99 US dollars down to 14.99, with an offer ends countdown visible on the store page at 03:13:43Z. Steam reported 212,006 recommendations on the title. Fifty nine days before the sequel, the predecessor is half price. How many people are actually on FiveM right now? Nobody outside Cfx can tell you, and this is the most useful thing in this article. CONFIRMED, and the researcher who found it says plainly that he nearly filed the wrong number. There are two official Cfx surfaces publishing a FiveM player count and they disagree by a factor of two and a half. SurfaceValueBehaviour observed runtime.fivem.net/counts.json297,210HTTP 200, 19 bytes, returns [null,297210,null]. Sampled five times at 03:09:20Z, 03:09:34Z, 03:09:46Z, 03:09:59Z and 03:11:19Z. Identical on every call across almost two minutes. Carries a last-modified of Mon, 18 Aug 2025, more than a year stale. fivem.net homepage120,520HTTP 200, 36,711 bytes. Renders as "Join the 120.5k people playing right now!" with 120,520 in the markup. A repeat fetch returned a byte identical page, so this is a cached snapshot too. The JSON endpoint's array positions are unlabelled, there is no schema, and the first and third slots are null. Nobody here could establish whether 297,210 is concurrent players, daily uniques, an all time peak or FiveM and RedM combined. Two further endpoints tried to disambiguate it both returned HTTP 404: runtime.fivem.net/api/counts/ and servers-frontend.fivem.net/api/servers/stats. The researcher used the homepage figure in the table above, for one reason only: it is at least labelled with what it claims to count. It is still flagged as cached. Nobody should quote 297,210 until somebody establishes what it is. Neither figure has been shown to be wrong. They are simply irreconcilable from outside, and neither moved while it was being watched. Why did a naive scrape of the FiveM homepage produce 393,429? CONFIRMED, and it is the second trap in the same fetch. A first pass that extracted every comma formatted number on the FiveM homepage produced a candidate list including 393,429, 35,102 and 39,112. None of those is data. All three are fragments of SVG path geometry in the Cfx logo, of the form M 393,429 l 0.8,0 c -10.9,34.5 .... A regular expression that looks for a big number on a page will happily invent statistics out of vector artwork. If you see a FiveM player count in the high three hundred thousands that nobody has sourced to a named endpoint, this is very likely where it came from. Why does this matter for GTA 6 servers? Because of who owns the room. Background, CONFIRMED and outside the research window: Rockstar's parent owns cfx.re, the organisation behind FiveM and RedM. This desk has covered that structure at length. Set the two halves of this week side by side and the shape is clear enough without anyone editorialising. The same company that owns the largest Grand Theft Auto multiplayer venue has, over the same weekend, become the subject of a story about a Mod Guidelines page whose text is reported to route multiplayer modding through a licensed Creator Platform. This desk has not read that policy text and says so in its own separate report today. What is measurable is the size of the thing the policy would apply to, and today it measures at roughly 120,000 people at a Western trough hour. What this does not establish Not established: a FiveM player base. One cached homepage label at one instant is not a population, and the only other official surface disagrees with it by 2.5 times. Not established: a Grand Theft Auto V player base. The Steam figure counts Steam only and excludes the Rockstar launcher, Epic and every console. Not comparable without care: the Twitch figure counts viewers, not players. It is in the table as a measure of attention on the same surface at the same second. Not a trend: nothing here is measured against yesterday, last week or last year. It is one instant, at an hour that flatters East Asia and penalises the Americas. Not found, recorded as not found: any Grand Theft Auto VI category on Twitch. Four separate category searches at 03:13Z on 21 September surfaced none. That is a statement about a search index at one moment, not a statement about Twitch's database. Not reachable: Reddit, which returned HTTP 403 with a bot wall to two separate routes, so no subreddit figure appears anywhere in this article. The FiveM and Cfx beat runs through our piece on FiveM as the only authorised platform, the ownership explainer and the Creator Platform piece. The Twitch category history is at this piece, and what a server list expects at launch is at this one. More on the news desk, background on the GTA 6 wiki, and for the 59 days between now and release the servers list and the leaderboards are open. That 59 day count is this desk's own arithmetic from today's date to 19 November 2026.
