What Is Actually in the GTA 6 Website Source Code Right Now
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news9 min read
Zero occurrences of project_americas. Zero occurrences of _T3_. No trailer-3 anywhere, against 24 references each to trailer-1 and trailer-2. The T3 screenshot traces to material dated May 5 to 6, 2026 describing a Trailer 2 thumbnail. Font preloading is routine build output, so the prediction that landed still rests on a weak mechanism.
Reading Rockstar's website source for clues is a real hobby with a real hit rate. It has also become a place where dead screenshots get recycled as fresh discoveries.
We fetched rockstargames.com/VI on August 14, 2026 and grepped it. One famous clue that is still circulating does not appear on the page at all. One much less famous catch, made by someone watching backend diffs, turned out to be correct nine days later. Both are worth going through, because they show what this kind of monitoring can and cannot do.
The project_americas_T3 clue is not on the page
The claim runs like this. A screenshot said to show hidden elements named project_americas_T3_header and project_americas_T3_assets has been passed around as proof that a third trailer is loaded and waiting. "Project Americas" is GTA 6's reported working title, and "T3" gets read as Trailer 3.
CONFIRMED (our own retrieval, August 14, 2026): we pulled the page in full, 964,296 bytes, and searched it.
Occurrences of project_americas: 0
Occurrences of _T3_: 0
trailer-1 appears 24 times. trailer-2 appears 24 times. trailer_1 appears twice, trailer_2 appears twice.
There is no trailer-3, no trailer_3 and no T3 anywhere in the document.
extended-look appears 5 times.
Note the symmetry in that trailer list. Two trailers, 24 references each, plus a matching pair of underscore variants. That is what a page looks like when it has been built to hold exactly two trailers.
UNVERIFIED as to the original screenshot. We never saw it. The material traces back to a Reddit image relayed by a site that returned HTTP 403 to us, so we could not open the relay either. What we could read was the metadata attached to that relay, and it is dated May 5 to 6, 2026, describing a thumbnail for "Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2" with a runtime of 2:47.
That places the material in the Trailer 2 launch window, roughly three months ago. Whatever was on that page in early May, the page today does not carry either string. A clue about a build state from May is being circulated in August as though it describes the site now, and it does not.
The catch that landed: five font files
Now the other direction, because dismissing all source watching would be just as lazy as repeating stale screenshots.
REPORTED, and we could not read the original. A community account that monitors rockstargames.com backend diffs flagged three backend changes on July 28, 2026 with no visible content change on the site, including new preloading of five custom GTAArtDeco web fonts, and said something looked imminent. X is unreachable to us, so we have not read that post at source and it reaches us secondhand.
Nine days later, on August 6, 2026, Rockstar announced the Extended Look.
CONFIRMED (our own retrieval, August 14, 2026): all five GTAArtDeco font files are preloaded on the live page, and the five names match the published list exactly: GTAArtDeco_Bold, GTAArtDeco_CondensedBold, GTAArtDeco_CondensedHeavy, GTAArtDeco_Medium and GTAArtDeco_Regular.
So the prediction landed. The mechanism behind it is weak, and we are going to say so in the same paragraph rather than three screens later.
Font preloading is routine build output. A modern Next.js build emits preload hints for the fonts a route needs, and those hints change when the build changes, which happens for reasons that have nothing to do with announcements. Five fonts appearing in a preload list did not cause anything, did not prove anything, and would have been perfectly consistent with nothing happening at all. Plenty of similar diffs have been flagged and led nowhere.
The honest framing is that a site being rebuilt with new typography assets is a weak signal that somebody is preparing a visual change, and the community has learned to watch for it because it sometimes correlates. A weak signal that fires correctly once is still a weak signal.
Watching a website rebuild is a hobby with a real hit rate and a very high false positive rate.
What the page actually says right now
There is something faintly absurd about the T3 hunt continuing in August, and it is worth stating out loud.
CONFIRMED (same retrieval, August 14, 2026): the announcement the hidden-string hunters were reaching for is sitting on the page in plain text. The site carries "An Extended Look, Coming August 27", links to /VI/an-extended-look, and carries a featured news entry dated August 6, 2026. The string extended-look appears five times in the source.
Rockstar's own meta description on that page states, verbatim: "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET and will also launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET on August 27."
The question "is Rockstar about to show us something" has an answer written on the front of the website. No decoding required.
Nothing has moved on the asset servers since August 7
CONFIRMED (our own checks): Rockstar has published no new media assets since August 7. All four official GTA VI download packs return identical last-modified, etag and content-length values today as they did on August 10 and August 12.
That is a useful null result, and null results are worth printing. If new artwork or a new trailer package were being staged on Rockstar's servers, those headers would move. They have not moved in a week. Anyone telling you assets have quietly gone up is describing something that did not happen on the endpoints we can see.
It also sets a marker for the next fortnight. If those values change before August 27, that is a real, checkable, timestamped event rather than a screenshot. We will re-run the same checks and print whatever they return.
How to read a source code clue
Three rules come out of this, and they apply to the next one of these as much as to this one.
Date the artifact, not the post. The T3 screenshot is being shared in August. Its metadata belongs to early May and describes a Trailer 2 thumbnail. A screenshot has no expiry printed on it, which is exactly why old ones keep coming back around.
Check the live page before believing a picture of it. Anyone can fetch rockstargames.com/VI and search it. We did, and neither string is there. That takes one command and settles the present tense completely.
A correct prediction is not a proven mechanism. The font watcher was right about timing. Fonts still do not signal trailers. Both of those statements are true at once and the second one is the useful one.
Is a GTA 6 Trailer 3 coming?
Nothing in the source code of Rockstar's own site indicates one. There is no trailer-3, no trailer_3 and no T3 string on the page, and the two trailers that do exist are referenced 24 times each. What the page does carry, repeatedly and in plain language, is the Extended Look on August 27.
Rockstar has not announced a third trailer, and we are not going to infer one from a string that was not on the page when we looked.
What we confirmed and what we did not
Confirmed (our own retrieval of rockstargames.com/VI, August 14, 2026, 964,296 bytes): zero occurrences of project_americas and zero occurrences of _T3_.
Confirmed (same retrieval): trailer-1 appears 24 times, trailer-2 appears 24 times, trailer_1 and trailer_2 appear twice each, and there is no trailer-3, trailer_3 or T3 anywhere. extended-look appears 5 times.
Confirmed (same retrieval): all five GTAArtDeco fonts are preloaded, named GTAArtDeco_Bold, GTAArtDeco_CondensedBold, GTAArtDeco_CondensedHeavy, GTAArtDeco_Medium and GTAArtDeco_Regular.
Confirmed (same retrieval): the page carries "An Extended Look, Coming August 27", a link to /VI/an-extended-look, and a featured news entry dated August 6, 2026.
Unverified: the original project_americas_T3 screenshot. We never saw it, and the site relaying it returned HTTP 403 to us.
Reported, from the relay metadata we could read: that material is dated May 5 to 6, 2026 and describes a thumbnail for "Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2" with a 2:47 runtime, placing it in the Trailer 2 launch window roughly three months ago.
Reported, and unread by us at source: the July 28, 2026 post flagging three backend changes including the five font preloads. X is unreachable to us. The font presence on the live page is confirmed by our own grep, the post is not.
Stated plainly: font preloading is routine Next.js build output and is not by itself evidence of an imminent trailer. The July 28 prediction landed nine days before the August 6 announcement, and the mechanism behind it remains weak.
Confirmed (our own checks): no new Rockstar media assets since August 7. All four official GTA VI download packs return identical last-modified, etag and content-length values as on August 10 and August 12.
Explicitly not claimed: that a third trailer exists, that one is coming, or that the May screenshot was fabricated. We report what is on the live page and what is not.
Not obtained: any comment from Rockstar or Take-Two.
We re-run these greps whenever the page changes, and the diffs go on our news page. If you are lining up somewhere to play once November arrives, our servers list is the place to start.
