Three GTA 6 Preorder Percentages, and None of Them Has a Source
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news7 min read
The 88.5 per cent Ultimate Edition share reaches this desk as a German financial aggregator published on 15 September at 14:11, citing a second German aggregator, citing nobody. It conflicts with a 90 per cent figure from a games blog and with a 77 to 23 PS5 against Xbox split from a hardware site, and those three are not even measuring the same quantity. EDGAR full-text search across Take-Two's entire filing history since 2004 returns 6 hits for pre-order, 1 for preorder and 17 for pre-orders, and the only 2026 hit in any of those sets is the single neutral sentence recording that pre-orders commenced in June 2026. No Take-Two share price appears anywhere in this article, because two aggregators published USD 222.91 and USD 213.45 for the same day and stooq.com reset the connection mid-transfer at 03:19:21Z, so no defensible figure could be obtained and none was estimated. Also confirmed as a clean negative: Take-Two has not dated its Q2 FY2027 earnings call, across six searched strings on its own 383,803 byte events module.
Three different percentages are circulating this week for how Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders break down. Take-Two Interactive has never published a pre-order figure of any kind, and its own quarterly filing proves it in one sentence.
This piece exists because the researcher who found the first of those percentages withdrew the story in full on cross-check. That withdrawal is the story.
The three figures, and where each one actually comes from
UNVERIFIED, all three. None is sourced to Take-Two or to Rockstar. None has a named analyst or a named firm behind it. They also do not measure the same quantity, which is why they can all be quoted in the same week without anyone noticing they are incompatible.

77 to 23PS5 against Xbox split, on a base of 4.38 million pre-orders and roughly USD 429 millionTweakTownNone given
Two of those three are edition mix on one platform. The third is a platform split. Anyone quoting them together is adding up different things.
What Take-Two's own filing says about pre-orders
CONFIRMED, primary, read in full. The only place a pre-order disclosure could live is the quarterly report. A researcher pulled it directly from the SEC archive.
Document: Take-Two's 10-Q for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, accession 0001628280-26-054870, filed 7 August 2026
Retrieved: 2026-09-16T03:18:45Z, HTTP 200, 1,124,179 bytes
The string "pre-order" appears exactly once in the entire filing. Here it is, in full, with the whole sentence it sits in:
Rockstar Games continues to invest in the series and will release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, during the current fiscal year. The label released its first trailer for the title in December 2023 and the second in May 2025, and pre-orders for the title commenced in June 2026.
No unit count. No revenue. No edition mix. No platform split. The company recorded that pre-orders opened, and stopped.
And the negative goes wider than one document. EDGAR full-text search across Take-Two's entire filing history since 2004, run at 2026-09-16T03:18:11Z, returns 6 hits for "pre-order", 1 for "preorder" and 17 for "pre-orders" across all forms. The only 2026 hit in any of those sets is the sentence above. There is no other place in the company's filed record where a 2026 pre-order figure could be hiding.
Why there is no share price in this article
We are printing no Take-Two share price today, and here is exactly why. Two different prices for the same day, 15 September 2026, are in circulation: USD 222.91 from AD HOC NEWS and USD 213.45 from a second aggregator that also gave an intraday range of USD 211.54 to USD 221.77.
A researcher then tried to settle it against a real market data source and could not. stooq.com's CSV endpoint reset the connection mid-transfer at 2026-09-16T03:19:21Z, with the agent proxy reporting ws_closed_mid_exchange, and this desk has no market data provider. No defensible price was obtained, so no price is printed and none was estimated. Any figure that appears elsewhere alongside a GTA 6 pre-order percentage this week should be treated the same way until somebody produces a primary quote.
The researcher who killed this story was ours
This was filed as a finding and then withdrawn in full by the person who filed it, on the grounds that the sourcing chain is aggregator citing aggregator. The chain is short and it runs out fast: a German financial aggregator published on 15 September at 14:11, attributing the 88.5 per cent figure to a second German aggregator, which attributes it to nobody. No analyst. No firm. No method. No base.
The same researcher's closing note is worth reproducing, because it is what withdrawal should look like: the company has published no pre-order numbers at all, so every unit and revenue figure in circulation is a third-party estimate, and several of them conflict with each other.
The figure a reader can actually use, if a Take-Two number is wanted: the company's fiscal 2026 net bookings of USD 6.72 billion, described in the shareholder letter as approximately USD 750 million above initial guidance, with expected operating cash flow of more than USD 1 billion this fiscal year. Those are in a filed SEC document over the chief executive's name. The percentages are not.
A confirmed negative worth having: Q2 FY2027 earnings have no date
CONFIRMED. Take-Two's own investor relations events module, retrieved at 2026-09-16T03:05:34Z, HTTP 200, 383,803 bytes, was searched for Q2 2027, Q2 FY, Second Quarter, second quarter, October 2026 and November 2026. All six return zero.
The module holds exactly two entries: the past Q1 2027 earnings call of 7 August 2026 at 12:00 PM UTC, and the 2026 annual meeting of stockholders on 17 September 2026 at 1:00 PM UTC. Take-Two has not dated its Q2 FY2027 call. That matters for anyone waiting for the first official pre-order commentary, because the earnings call is where such a number would ordinarily appear, and no such call is on the calendar between now and the release.
What is and is not established
CONFIRMED, primary: the string "pre-order" appears exactly once in Take-Two's 7 August 10-Q, in a neutral sentence recording that pre-orders commenced in June 2026, in a document of 1,124,179 bytes.
CONFIRMED, primary: EDGAR full-text search over the whole filing history since 2004 returns no other 2026 pre-order hit in any form.
UNVERIFIED, and we would not print them as facts: 88.5 per cent, 90 per cent and the 77 to 23 split. No primary basis, no named analyst, no stated method, and three different measured quantities.
CONFIRMED: Take-Two has not dated its Q2 FY2027 earnings call, on its own events module, across six searched strings.
Explicitly not claimed: that any of the three percentages is wrong. We do not know. We know that nobody has shown their working, and that the company has published nothing to check them against.
Method limits: no market data source could be reached, so no share price appears here; cheatcc, TweakTown and several other pages returned 403 to this desk, so some figures above are known through the aggregator carriage rather than from the originating page.
This desk has taken apart pre-order estimates before, at the 89 per cent Ultimate Edition claim and at the 570 per cent figure with the missing base, and there is a worked example of how a revenue figure gets invented at the 1.39 billion dollar correction. A separate modelling claim from this month is unpicked at the Piper Sandler piece. The rest of today's reporting is on the news desk and the standing record is on the GTA 6 wiki.
