GTA V Enhanced Now Beats Legacy on Steam, 34,016 to 24,531
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news8 min read
This desk queried Valve's official ISteamUserStats endpoint directly for both app IDs, receiving HTTP 200 and 46 bytes of JSON per call, and sampled four times across twelve minutes from 2026-09-24T03:00:45Z to 03:12:54Z. Legacy, appid 271590, moved between 24,531 and 24,610. Enhanced, appid 3240220, moved between 33,980 and 34,016. The ordering never changed. The 58.10 per cent share, the 38.7 per cent lead, the per month share column and the 14.3 percentage point gain since July 2025 are this desk's own arithmetic. The monthly averages and peaks are REPORTED rather than confirmed: they are printed by SteamCharts, a third party that derives its series from the same Valve endpoint, read at 2026-09-24T03:05:01Z at 42,899 and 9,832 bytes, and they are attributed as derived. Last 30 Days is a rolling window and is not a calendar month. Steam counts the PC playerbase only and GTA 6 has no announced PC version, so nothing here forecasts GTA 6. FiveM sessions land inside these counts and cannot be separated from vanilla, so the July correlation is a correlation. The frozen FiveM counts.json file is flagged so nobody quotes it as live.
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced now has more people in it than the Legacy build it was meant to replace. On Valve's own player count endpoint, sampled at the same minute, Enhanced held 34,016 concurrent players against Legacy's 24,531. On thirty-day averages, Enhanced has crossed above Legacy for the first time outside a one-month spike in July.
For anyone who plays roleplay, that is the migration question answered with a number rather than a vibe.
The live snapshot
CONFIRMED. Valve publishes a current player count for any app through its official Web API. This desk queried both app IDs directly, receiving HTTP 200 and 46 bytes of raw JSON each time. The coherent simultaneous snapshot at 2026-09-24T03:12:54Z:
BuildSteam AppIDConcurrent players
Grand Theft Auto V Legacy27159024,531
Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced324022034,016
That was not a single lucky read. Four samples were taken across twelve minutes, from 03:00:45Z to 03:12:54Z. Legacy moved between 24,531 and 24,610 across them. Enhanced moved between 33,980 and 34,016. The ordering never changed.
Two figures here are this desk's own arithmetic on those counts. Enhanced holds 58.10 per cent of the combined 58,547 players, and Enhanced leads Legacy by 38.7 per cent.
The longer series, and who it comes from
REPORTED, not confirmed. The monthly rows below are printed by SteamCharts, a third party that derives its series from the same Valve endpoint queried above. This desk read the two pages at 2026-09-24T03:05:01Z, at 42,899 and 9,832 bytes, both HTTP 200. These are derived figures from a third party and they are labelled as such rather than presented as official Valve output.

July 202569,42239,97736.54%66,458
The share column is this desk's own arithmetic on the two average columns beside it, not a figure SteamCharts prints. From July 2025 to the current rolling window, Enhanced has gone from 36.54 per cent of the combined average to 50.83 per cent. That is a gain of 14.3 percentage points in fourteen months, and it is this desk's own subtraction.
A warning about that first row, because it is the row people will screenshot. "Last 30 days" is a rolling window with no stated end timestamp. It is not a calendar month, and it should never be read straight down a column of calendar months without that caveat attached.
The July spike, and what it probably was
July 2026 is the outlier in that table. SteamCharts prints a month-on-month gain of +46.77 per cent for Enhanced in July, then -25.31 per cent in August. Enhanced peaked at 160,737 in July, which is 2.11 per cent above its March 2025 peak of 157,412 and the highest Enhanced peak in the nineteen months of data pulled here. That comparison is this desk's own arithmetic.
July 2026 is also the month FiveM opened early access on GTA V Enhanced, on 21 July, which this desk covered at the time in the early access piece. Those two things line up in the same month.
That is a correlation and this article calls it one. FiveM launches through GTA V, so FiveM sessions land inside these Steam counts, but Valve does not break out modded sessions and there is no way from this data to separate a roleplay session from a vanilla one. The shape of the July curve is consistent with the migration driving it. It does not prove it.
What these numbers do not measure
Three limits, printed rather than buried.
First, Steam concurrents count the PC playerbase only. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series with no PC version announced. Nothing in this article forecasts GTA 6 sales, GTA 6 player counts or GTA 6 anything. It measures the roleplay platform's migration between two builds of an older game, and only that.
Second, one hour of live sampling is one hour. GTA V concurrents swing hard across a day and 03:00 UTC is nobody's peak. The four samples above establish that the ordering was stable across twelve minutes, not that it is stable across a week.
Third, the derived monthly series was read, not audited. This desk did not reconstruct SteamCharts' history from Valve's endpoint and is not vouching for rows it did not compute.
One further caution on figures that circulate in this space. FiveM's own counts.json still returns a player number, and it is a static file whose last-modified header is 18 August 2025. It returned the identical value on four checks between 03:06:04Z and 03:06:22Z. That file is frozen and nobody should quote it as live. This desk unpicked that in the static count file piece. The live servers endpoints tried here all returned 404.
What it means for the build you install
If you play roleplay on PC, the practical question is which build your server expects. The population answer now points one way: more people are in Enhanced than in Legacy at any given moment, and the rolling thirty-day average has crossed over too. That is the environment a server owner is choosing a target for.
The escrow and asset migration friction that came with the Enhanced move is a separate matter and it has not gone away. Our running coverage of that is at the escrow migration wait, and if you are picking where to play, the current listings are at the 6Charts server list.
For an earlier fixed point in this series, our platform snapshot taken at 59 days out is at the L-59 platform snapshot. Today is 56 days before 19 November 2026, which is this desk's own arithmetic, and the trend across those readings is the same trend the table above shows.
The one-line version
Enhanced 34,016, Legacy 24,531, both from Valve's own endpoint at 03:12:54Z on 24 September 2026. The build that was supposed to take over has taken over on PC, fourteen months after it was sitting at a third of the combined audience.
