RAGE:MP was one of the two major alternative GTA V multiplayer platforms, and as of August 2026 it is weeks from disappearing entirely.
The timeline
The team announced a Take-Two cease and desist on May 26, 2026, with new servers blocked from going live in late May (coverage dates the block between May 25 and 26). On June 1, 2026 the master public server listing was switched off permanently, cutting communities off from new-player discovery and leaving them running on their existing playerbases. On August 31, 2026 the backend is deactivated and the client and server toolsets stop functioning the same day, with no offline mode or grace period described. The stated basis, per the announcement as quoted in reporting: "Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have made it clear that FiveM is the only authorized platform for GTAV multiplayer modding," under the same Platform License Agreement that ended alt:V. The team's farewell noted that "Rage:MP was always defined more by the community than by the codebase," and pointed server owners toward FiveM.
Why migration is a rewrite
RAGE:MP hosted heavy roleplay communities that never ran FiveM tooling, GTA World among the best known. RAGE:MP and FiveM are different frameworks, with different client APIs, server runtimes, event models and resource structures, so a serious gamemode cannot be copied across: scripts get rewritten, custom UI rebuilt, and years of server-specific tooling re-implemented. If your estimate assumes a port, the estimate is wrong.
An awkwardly timed deadline
The shutdown lands weeks into FiveM for GTAV Enhanced early access, which is still missing asset escrow, so displaced operators choose between the aging Legacy client and an unfinished successor. Communities rebuilding their playerbases from zero can list themselves for discovery on the 6Charts server list.
