With two official trailers released, the September 2022 breach can be scored against what Rockstar has actually shown, and the result cuts both ways. The full grading lives in the 2022 leak accuracy scorecard.

What the leak got right

A surprising amount of the footage was later validated by official marketing: the Vice City setting, dual protagonists Lucia and Jason, the prison and opening material, the Hank's convenience-store robbery scene, the cellphone UI, named NPCs, and the state of Leonida itself. Stacked against the trailers, the through-lines are obvious: the world, the leads and several specific set pieces survived from rough in-development capture all the way to polished reveal.

What it never showed

Plenty of what defines GTA 6 today was simply absent from the 2022 material: the November 19, 2026 release date, the radio stations, the full cast and antagonists, and Trailer 2's cinematic set pieces all came later. Anyone in 2022 who thought they had seen GTA 6 had really seen a fraction of it.

The standing caveat

The breach is confirmed and the footage authentic, but the granular gameplay-mechanic reads fans extrapolated from grainy development clips remain interpretation, not confirmation. A short clip of an unfinished system shows a feature was being worked on in 2022; it does not show how that feature ships, or whether it ships at all. The verdict: an accurate glimpse of the game's bones, and a much weaker guide to the finer mechanics people read into it.
