Weapon customization in Grand Theft Auto VI is a confirmed, two-layer system: cosmetic skins on top of functional attachments, both shown in Rockstar's official June 2026 screenshot drop. The presence of the system is confirmed; the full range of attachments, and how they affect handling, has not been demonstrated in gameplay.

The skin layer already has a marquee example. The Vintage Vice City Pack pre-order bonus includes a tropical weapon pattern that applies to most guns, which Rockstar's site says is "inspired by Tommy Vercetti's iconic palm tree button-up." At the top end, the engraved Girardi ES9 and Klose K17 sidearms show personalization reaching down to serial numbers and mottos.

Customization lives inside a deliberately constrained loadout philosophy. Weapon carry is capped at two handguns and one long gun, and swapping that loadout happens at weapon lockers inside personal garages, with Paradise Garage in Watson Bay and the Shore Court Garage near Ocean Beach named by Rockstar. Kotaku likened the arrangement to Red Dead Redemption 2's lockers and loadouts. The contrast with GTA 5 is the point: instead of hauling an entire armory at all times, players choose a small kit and return to base to change it, which turns the garage into a genuine base of operations and makes each customized weapon a considered pick rather than one of forty. See weapon carry system for the cap itself, and GTA 6 weapons for the full picture.
