The Cancelled PS4 Version Theory
Datamined PlayStation title IDs tagged to PS4 sparked the abandoned GTA 6 PS4 build theory. Rockstar scrubbed the data and has confirmed nothing.

The "cancelled PS4 version" of GTA 6 is an inference from datamined storefront records, not anything Rockstar has said. The studio has only ever confirmed PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The find
Around March 1, 2026, the tracking account PlayStation Game Size surfaced two internal GTA 6 title IDs in Sony's PlayStation Store backend: PPSA01547_00 and PPSA29660_00. Per PCQuest, the attached metadata reportedly included the keyword PROJECT_AMERICAS, long circulated as Rockstar's internal codename for the game, which is why the entries were read as the real title rather than placeholders. Dataminer yAmethxst flagged both IDs as tied to PS4 in Sony's database, implying an abandoned last-gen build, and ScreenRant's March 2 coverage separately noted a PS4 PNG asset spotted in the database. Fans debated whether two IDs meant separate Story and Online builds or two retail editions; trackers noted that editions typically share a single ID.
The exploit and the scrub
Because the IDs were live, users exploited them within about 48 hours to force GTA 6 onto their PSN and Xbox "recently played" feeds. Rockstar then had the title IDs scrubbed from Sony's backend, stripped the injected feed entries, and some accounts reportedly caught temporary bans. Rockstar issued no public statement; the removal has been treated as tacit acknowledgment that the entries were real.
What it does and does not show
- Documented: the IDs existed, carried the reported metadata, and were removed after the exploit.
- Inference: that a full PS4 build once existed and was abandoned. GTA 6 entered production when the PS4 was current hardware, so an early last-gen plan is plausible, and it remains unconfirmed.
For players nothing changes: the confirmed lineup is PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and this episode is best read alongside the wider leak accuracy record.
