GTA 6 Has One Audio Language, and It Is English
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news8 min read
The Xbox consumer page was read at 03:01:39 UTC on 4 September, HTTP 200, 474,905 bytes, and its language matrix carries a single entry with isAudioSupported set true. Twelve languages get subtitles and interface support without audio; twenty-four carry no support flags at all, Arabic and Turkish among them. We print an honest gap: those counts reach 37 of the 38 entries and we are not guessing at the thirty-eighth. Then the community response, IGN's report on a Turkish localisation campaign with a fan dub, hedged as a campaign rather than an announcement, because Rockstar has said nothing.
Microsoft's own product data for Grand Theft Auto VI lists 38 languages. Thirteen of them carry a support flag of any kind. Exactly one carries audio: en-US.
As currently published, there is no localised voice acting for this game in any language. Not Japanese, not Korean, not Spanish, not French, not German, not Portuguese. English audio with subtitles, or English audio with no support at all, in every market on the list.
The matrix, as read
CONFIRMED. The Xbox consumer product page for Grand Theft Auto VI was fetched at 2026-09-04T03:01:39Z, HTTP 200, 474,905 bytes. The language matrix embedded in that page carries 38 language entries, of which 13 carry any support flag, and exactly one, en-US, has "isAudioSupported":true.
The twelve with subtitles and interface support but no audio: German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional).
The twenty-four with every support flag false: Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK), Estonian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Serbian (Latin), Slovak, Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.
An honest gap in our own notes. Twelve plus en-US plus twenty-four accounts for 37 of the 38 entries. The thirty-eighth is not itemised in our record. We are not going to guess which language it is, and we are telling you the count does not close rather than quietly writing 37 and hoping nobody checks.
What that means for players in the other 37
Concretely, and this is the part worth sitting with.
Japan. Subtitles and interface, no dub. The game is priced at ¥9,800 for the standard edition and ¥12,280 for the Ultimate Edition on the Japanese PlayStation Store, under its own title ID.
Korea. Subtitles and interface, no dub. Sony's Korean store additionally lists separate Korean-language SKUs, "Grand Theft Auto VI (한국어판)" and the Ultimate equivalent, at ₩89,800 and ₩112,800. A distinctly labelled Korean edition of a game with no Korean audio is an odd pairing, and we are flagging it rather than explaining it.
The Arabic-speaking Gulf. Arabic has no subtitle support at all on the current matrix, and the game is listed and priced on the UAE PlayStation Store at $79.99 and $99.99. That is a market being sold a game it cannot read in its own language.
Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, Greece, the Nordics, most of central and eastern Europe. Every flag false. No audio, no subtitles, no interface.
For a game with a Spanish-speaking lead character set in a city whose culture is substantially Latin American, the absence of a Spanish dub is the detail most likely to surprise people.
The hedges on the matrix itself
Two, and they matter.
This is storefront metadata and it can change before release. Pre-release language matrices are routinely updated. Everything above is the record as read on 4 September 2026, 76 days out, and the honest phrasing is "as currently published" rather than "GTA 6 will ship with".
One entry is visibly a cataloguing artefact. English (UK) reads as unsupported, which is plainly not a statement about whether British players can understand the game; en-US covers it. That tells you the matrix is broadly indicative rather than a shipping guarantee, and you should not read individual rows as promises.
What the matrix does establish, firmly, is that a single audio locale is what Microsoft's catalog currently declares, and one flag out of 38 is not the kind of thing that happens by accident.
The community response: a fan dub, made in a day
CONFIRMED as reporting. IGN published at 2026-09-03T21:52:05.260Z, byline Cade Onder, fetched by us at 03:03:33Z, HTTP 200. Verbatim:
Fans have been asking Rockstar Games to add Turkish subtitles or voice overs to GTA 6 ahead of its release in November. They aren't just making social media posts tagging Rockstar, either; they actually professionally dubbed and mixed the entire GTA 6 extended look with a whole cast of actors. The Turkish dub went up just a day after the gameplay was released, which means there was a very fast turn around.
Turkish is one of the twenty-four entries on Microsoft's matrix with every flag false, which is exactly why the campaign exists.
IGN reports a precedent, verbatim: "This has led to massive fan campaigns for titles like 007 First Light, which actually resulted in IO Interactive adding Turkish subtitles to the game." The creator Pintipanda, quoted by IGN, makes an argument aimed squarely at a publisher's finance department:
I know that you guys do these things internally, but if creating a team from zero is hard or you don't have the time or the luxury, you have the money, of course. There is an alternative way to do this. We have world-class Turkish localization teams here. We are playing The Witcher 3 in Turkish, Cyberpunk 2077 in Turkish, Baldur's Gate in Turkish, and Warhammer games in Turkish. As you guessed, these are text-heavy games that we are playing and enjoy in our native country.
The studios behind these games like CD Projekt Red or Techland, all the studios are getting their investment back with the sales. That's a win-win, that's an alternative way to do these kinds of things. The choice is yours.
IGN's closing framing is that the creator knows localising a game of this size will not happen overnight, and that the community wants to be acknowledged by Rockstar as a starting point.
Now the hedges, which are not optional. A fan campaign is a campaign. It is not an announcement, and it is not evidence that anything will change. Rockstar has said nothing about Turkish support. No response, no acknowledgement, no hint of one. Nobody on this desk viewed the dub itself, so "professionally dubbed and mixed" is IGN's characterisation and not our assessment. The 007 First Light precedent is IGN's reporting, not independently checked by us. Pintipanda is named because he is a public creator whose published campaign is the artefact under discussion.
A related divergence, in Sony's own words, twice
Language is not the only place where what a player is told depends on where they live. Sony published two different versions of the same announcement on 3 September, and they give materially different instructions.
CONFIRMED, both posts read directly, fetched 2026-09-04T03:03:00Z, both HTTP 200, both page-stamped 3 September 2026. The global post carried 41 comments at the time of reading; the Southeast Asia edition carried none. The SEA post's title reads verbatim: "(For Southeast Asia) First look at the Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense Wireless Controllers".
The global post gives two different availability rules, one per colourway, verbatim:
The DualSense Wireless Controller: Grand Theft Auto VI White Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities globally at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers.
The DualSense Wireless Controller: Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities exclusively through direct.playstation.com where available and in other regions through select retailers.
CORRECTION worth stating plainly: "exclusively through direct.playstation.com" applies to the Black edition only. Coverage that applies it to both is wrong.
The Southeast Asia post gives one rule for both colourways and does not mention direct.playstation.com at all, verbatim:
In Southeast Asia, DualSense Wireless Controller: Grand Theft Auto VI White Limited Edition and DualSense Wireless Controller: Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities through participating retailers.
The pricing diverges completely too. The global post gives $84.99 USD, ¥12,480 including tax, €84.99 and £74.99. The Southeast Asia post gives SGD 115, MYR 419, IDR 1,549,000, THB 2,890, PHP 5,411 and VND 2,399,000, and carries a footnote the global post does not: "The exact launch date and availability for controllers may vary by country/region".
A second correction, on the pre-order markets. The summary in circulation lists six markets: the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Sony's own global post lists ten direct.playstation.com markets, verbatim: the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, with pre-orders opening on 10 September at 7:00am Pacific and 10:00am Eastern in the US and 10:00am local time elsewhere. Portugal is an eleventh market by a different route, through playstation.com/store/hardware. Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Portugal are being dropped in the retelling.
These are controllers, launching 19 November with pre-orders from 10 September. Nothing here has shipped. And since one headline that same day managed to describe the game itself as a PlayStation exclusive while its own body correctly said PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it is worth restating: Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation-only thing is a controller.
What is and is not established
CONFIRMED, from Microsoft's own product data at 03:01:39Z on 4 September: 38 language entries, 13 with any support flag, exactly one with audio support, en-US.
CONFIRMED: twelve languages carry subtitles and interface support with no audio, and twenty-four carry no support flags at all, including Arabic and Turkish.
Stated as a gap in our own record: those counts account for 37 of the 38 entries. The thirty-eighth is not itemised in our notes and we are not guessing.
HEDGED: this is storefront metadata as currently published, 76 days from release, and pre-release language matrices change. The English (UK) row reading unsupported shows the matrix is indicative rather than a shipping guarantee.
CONFIRMED as reporting, by IGN: a Turkish localisation campaign including a fan dub of the Extended Look produced within a day of its release, with a stated precedent in 007 First Light.
Explicitly not claimed: that Rockstar will add any language. Rockstar has said nothing about Turkish support, and a fan campaign is not an announcement. We did not view the dub.
CONFIRMED, both PlayStation.Blog posts read directly: the Southeast Asia edition drops direct.playstation.com entirely and carries SGD, MYR, IDR, THB, PHP and VND pricing against the global post's USD, JPY, EUR and GBP.
CORRECTION: "exclusively through direct.playstation.com" applies to the Black edition only, and the pre-order market list is ten markets plus Portugal through a different storefront, not six.
Restated because a headline got it wrong: Grand Theft Auto VI is not a PlayStation exclusive. It launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Our earlier work on regional unlock times and on edition pricing by country covers the rest of the regional picture, and the running ledger of what the storefronts actually say is on the wiki. The rest of today's reporting is on the news desk, and the servers list is open for the next 76 days.
