A Vice City Sign for a Miami Arena, and One Outlet Invented the Year

Every figure attributed to the application is printed here, along with two verbatim passages from a Letter of Intent as the fan site renders them, and then the reason none of it is confirmed. Researcher C searched the source page for "permit", "Permit", "process number" and "Process" and got zero hits on all four, so a site is quoting planning records it has not put in front of anyone. The underlying record could not be obtained either: Miami-Dade's permit search returned HTTP 404 at 2,625 bytes, the county service page returned HTTP 404 at 13,485 bytes, and the working portal is a 28,080 byte JavaScript shell that cannot be searched without the number nobody published. The source says "a maximum of two years" and an outlet converted that duration into a calendar year for a headline. Miami Beach has nothing new, and the three sponsoring commissioners of the 10 September resolution are newly recorded.

A fan site says it has obtained Miami-Dade planning documents for a Grand Theft Auto VI rooftop sign on the Kaseya Center, the downtown Miami arena. The numbers it prints are specific: 4,690 square feet of branding, around 21,000 lbs of new structural steel, and helicopter lifts of roughly 4,200 lbs and 4,950 lbs. This desk is marking the entire story REPORTED rather than CONFIRMED, and the reason is simple. There is no permit number. Not in the article, not anywhere. And without one there is no way to reach the record. What GTAVice.net says the documents contain REPORTED. The origin is GTAVice.net, published 15 September 2026 with a JSON-LD datePublished of 2026-09-15T16:00:04+01:00 and an identical dateModified, read at 2026-09-17T03:09:05Z, HTTP 200, 73,814 bytes. Its own on-page counter read 7,249 views at the moment of our fetch. It states, verbatim, "We've been able to track down official Miami-Dade planning documents". What it reports from them: ElementArea as reported "Welcome To"443 square feet "Vice City"4,017 square feet The VI logo230 square feet Total brandingapproximately 4,690 square feet Around 21,000 lbs, or 9,525 kg, of new structural steel, clamped to the arena's existing steel framework and reusing the existing rooftop sign frame. At least two helicopter lifts, listed at approximately 4,200 lbs (1,905 kg) and 4,950 lbs (2,245 kg). Static illumination, contrasted in the source with the dynamic digital illumination previously approved for the arena's roof signage. The artwork is intended as the featured copy for, in GTAVice's words, "a maximum of two years". GTAVice states explicitly that "The documents do not provide a specific date for the helicopter installation." Two passages from a Letter of Intent filed with the application, as GTAVice prints them, verbatim: The proposed copy is an onsite sign that will promote Rockstar Games, which is a major Arena sponsor with merchandise that will be available for sale at the Arena, among other promotions. The copy is part of a County-wide promotion for the release of a popular video game that features the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County. GTAVice's own footer describes the site as, verbatim, "a fan site, officially recognised by Rockstar Games". That cuts both ways and readers are entitled to it. It suggests a site with real proximity to the publisher. It also means the site is not an independent party reporting on a company it has no relationship with. Where the chain breaks, and why nothing above is confirmed The missing number is the whole problem. Researcher C searched the GTAVice page for four strings: "permit", "Permit", "process number" and "Process". Zero hits for all four. So a fan site is quoting Miami-Dade planning records that it has not put in front of anyone. There is no permit number, no process number, no file number and no link to any document. That does not make the account wrong. It makes it unverifiable by anybody who reads it. And the underlying record could not be reached. All three attempts, at 2026-09-17T03:09:58Z: Miami-Dade's permit search at miamidade.gov/Apps/RER/PermitSearch/: HTTP 404, 2,625 bytes. The county's service page for the same function: HTTP 404, 13,485 bytes. The EnerGov self-service portal: HTTP 200, but 28,080 bytes of JavaScript shell with no server-rendered search in it at all. Without a permit number there is no way into the third one, and the first two do not exist at the addresses published for them. That is the end of the chain, and it is why this article stops at REPORTED. Will the Vice City sign stay up until 2028? DEBUNKED. GTA BOOM's headline says the sign "may stay up until 2028". Researcher C searched the GTAVice article that GTA BOOM itself credits as its source for the string "2028". Zero hits. The source says "a maximum of two years" and nothing more. A duration has been converted into a calendar year and put into a headline as though it came out of a planning document. It is arithmetic performed by an outlet, and the record does not say it. The same piece inverts its source twice more. GTA BOOM writes that the sign will be "possibly lifted into place via helicopter", whereas GTAVice says the installation "has specifically been designed around a series of helicopter lifts" according to the approved plans. One outlet hedged what its source stated, and hardened what its source hedged. The GTA BOOM piece also cannot agree with itself on when it was published. Its JSON-LD datePublished reads 2026-09-16T03:57:06.766Z with a dateModified of 2026-09-16T15:14:46.512Z, while the human-readable byline reads "Sep 15, 2026", updated Sep 16. The two disagree by a day. This desk uses the JSON-LD as house rule, so the piece is dated 16 September here. It was read at 2026-09-17T03:08:44Z, HTTP 200, 614,787 bytes. Miami Beach: nothing new, and a dollar figure that is still not in the document CONFIRMED as nothing new. The Miami Beach resolution directing the city manager to negotiate with a marketing company over Grand Theft Auto VI signage remains the 10 September item this desk has already covered. The agenda page was read at 2026-09-17T03:07:20Z, HTTP 200, 139,165 bytes. The resolution, verbatim in part: A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT WITH AMPLIFY MARKETING INC. ALLOWING THE INSTALLATION OF SIGNAGE AND OTHER MATERIALS ON CONCESSION EQUIPMENT ON THE BEACHFRONT AND ON SUCH OTHER PUBLIC PROPERTY AS THE CITY MANAGER MAY DETERMINE, IN CONNECTION WITH A MARKETING CAMPAIGN COMMENCING OCTOBER 15, 2026 TO PROMOTE THE RELEASE OF GRAND THEFT AUTO VI BY ROCKSTAR GAMES... Newly recorded, and not previously published by this desk: the three sponsoring commissioners are Monica Matteo-Salinas, Laura Dominguez and Joseph Magazine. The resolution text contains no dollar figure. The "upwards of $3 million, possibly closer to $4 million" still circulating against this item is not in the document, which independently confirms what this desk published before. No new Miami Beach or Miami-Dade agenda item or vote appeared on 16 or 17 September. What is and is not established REPORTED, not confirmed: every square footage, weight and duration attributed to the Kaseya Center sign application, and both Letter of Intent quotations. All of it comes from one fan site that publishes no permit number and no document link. CONFIRMED: that the fan site publishes no permit number, process number or file number, from a four-string search of its own page returning zero hits on all four. CONFIRMED: two Miami-Dade permit portals return HTTP 404 at 2,625 and 13,485 bytes, and the third is a 28,080 byte JavaScript shell with no server-rendered search. DEBUNKED: the claim that the sign may stay up until 2028. The cited source contains zero occurrences of 2028 and says a maximum of two years. CONFIRMED: the Miami Beach resolution of 10 September contains no dollar figure, and its three sponsoring commissioners are named above. Explicitly not claimed: that Rockstar has applied for anything, that a permit has been granted, or that a sign will be installed. Nobody here has seen an application, an approval or a rejection, and neither Rockstar nor the arena has said anything about it. Method limits: the primary planning record was not obtained by any route; the two county portals published for permit search returned 404; the working portal cannot be searched without the number the fan site did not publish; and the City of Miami's own permit system was not attempted in this window and is the obvious next place to look. The rest of this desk's Miami coverage is at the banner ordinance piece and the pitch-chain piece. Today's other reporting is on the news desk, the standing record is on the GTA 6 wiki, and the servers list and leaderboards are open for the 63 days between today and 19 November, a count that is this desk's own arithmetic.
