Only Korea and Hong Kong Have Rated GTA 6 So Far
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news8 min read
Sony uses visibly distinct image files for rating graphics, which makes the storefront sweep unusually clean: ten locales serve assets named rp17.png, provisional_18.png or usk/rp.png, while Korea serves skorea/19.png as GRAC 19+ and Hong Kong serves an IARC 18+. PlayStation's own support page says in prose that the age ratings are unconfirmed. Microsoft's Brazilian catalog reads DJCTQ 18 with three descriptors while Sony's Brazilian storefront reads ClassInd Rating Pending, on the same game on the same day. The Korean label could not be dated: the Internet Archive was down and GRAC's registry could not be queried.
Two age ratings for Grand Theft Auto VI exist anywhere in the world as a definitive label on a storefront. One is South Korea's GRAC 19+. The other is Hong Kong's IARC 18+. Everywhere else, seventy days before release, the box is empty.
This is a statement of present state, checked today across four rating boards, twelve PlayStation Store locales, nine Microsoft catalog markets and one platform holder's support page. It is not a break, and one part of it in particular cannot be dated at all.
The board sweep: nothing from ESRB, PEGI, USK, and the Australian register would not answer
ESRB: zero Grand Theft Auto VI records. CONFIRMED. The public ratings search was queried at 2026-09-10T03:06:51Z, HTTP 200, 2,630 bytes. The search for "Grand Theft Auto VI" returns total: 7, found: 7, and every one of the seven is a Vice City title matched on the token "Vice": the Definitive Edition, two separate Vice City console entries, three Vice City Stories entries and one multi-platform Vice City. There is no Grand Theft Auto VI record. The control query for "Grand Theft Auto 6", same endpoint, HTTP 200, 448 bytes, returns total: 0, found: 0.
One caveat, and it matters. The ESRB search defaults to the issued rating set E, E10+, T, M and AO, and passing an explicit rating filter returned HTTP 500, 184 bytes, on every attempt. So this query would not surface a Rating Pending certificate even if one existed. Read it as no issued final rating, not as proof that no submission is in flight.
PEGI: zero results, in PEGI's own words. CONFIRMED. The database was queried at 2026-09-10T03:05:01Z, HTTP 200, 42,765 bytes. Verbatim from the results block:
"Search resultsFound0 resultsfrom your queryNo results foundThe title of the game you were searching for cannot be found in this database. This may mean it was not classified by PEGI, but it may also mean it was published on a platform that is not included in this database."
USK: three Grand Theft Auto titles, none of them VI. CONFIRMED. The German board's title search was fetched at 2026-09-10T03:05:01Z, HTTP 200, 23,296 bytes. The only Grand Theft Auto entries returned are Grand Theft Auto III The Definitive Edition, Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V.
Australia: FAILED at the primary source. The Australian Classification register was attempted twice, at 2026-09-10T03:07:42Z over HTTP/2 and again at 03:08:05Z forced to HTTP/1.1. Both returned HTTP 000, 0 bytes, with the stream closing on an internal error. The bare origin also returned 000 / 0 bytes. A proxy self-check reported no relay failures, so this is the origin refusing us rather than a fault at our end. We could not read the Australian register today and we print nothing from it.
What we do have for Australia is Microsoft's own AU storefront, fetched at 2026-09-10T03:14:42Z, HTTP 200, 55,012 bytes, whose rating string reads verbatim "Check the Classification", corroborated by the catalog value "RatingSystem": "COB-AU", "RatingId": "COB-AU:CTC". CTC is the placeholder used for an unclassified title. Germany's Microsoft storefront, fetched in the same second, HTTP 200, 58,776 bytes, prints "Einstufung ausstehend", rating pending, against a catalog value of USK:RP.
The clean trick: Sony serves a different image file for a real rating
Reading the rating graphic each PlayStation Store locale serves separates a real label from a placeholder without any interpretation, because Sony uses visibly distinct asset paths. A placeholder has rp or provisional in the filename. A real label has a number.
All twelve locales below were fetched at 2026-09-10T03:03:41Z against the same product, EP1004-PPSA01547_00-GTAVISTANDARD001, all HTTP 200.

Ten locales serve a file whose name contains rp or provisional, or print the words Rating Pending. Two serve a number.
The limits on the Korean label, which we are not going to let get upgraded
The Korean 19+ is CONFIRMED as to present state and UNVERIFIED as to when it appeared, and four separate things stop it being a break.
We could not date it. The Internet Archive was returning "Internet Archive services are temporarily offline", HTTP 503, 11,832 bytes, at 2026-09-10T03:11:46Z. With no snapshot to diff against, there is no baseline. It may have been there for weeks.
GRAC's own registry is FAILED. The board's site was reachable at 2026-09-10T03:07:42Z, HTTP 200, 165,390 bytes, but it is an ASP.NET postback site. Both the game search and the rating list pages returned HTTP 200 with the site's Korean error page at 1,351 bytes each, and the autocomplete endpoint returned HTTP 400, 910 bytes. We could not query the Korean register directly.
The Korean listing is a separate localised product. Its title on the page is Grand Theft Auto VI (한국어판). A Korea-specific rating on a Korea-specific SKU is exactly what you would expect to land first, which makes it unsurprising rather than significant.
Microsoft's Korean catalog contains no GRAC entry at all. The KR-market record for product 9P3H4968GRSM was fetched at 2026-09-10T03:02:14Z, HTTP 200, 16,415 bytes, and its twelve-system content-ratings array has no GRAC value in it. The Korean Xbox consumer page, HTTP 200, 60,715 bytes, prints no rating string. The Korean 19+ exists on Sony's storefront and on no other surface we could reach.
Sony says it in prose, not just in a placeholder graphic
CONFIRMED. PlayStation's own support page for the GTA VI offer terms was fetched at 2026-09-10T03:09:33Z, HTTP 200, 33,611 bytes. Verbatim from its FAQ block:
"What age rating is Grand Theft Auto VI?Age ratings for video games vary from country to country, and at the time of writing the age ratings for Grand Theft Auto VI are unconfirmed. However, Grand Theft Auto V was rated M (Mature 17+) by the ESRB in North America and PEGI 18 in Europe, indicating that it is intended for adult players."
That is a first-party platform holder, in writing, on 10 September, saying the ratings are unconfirmed. It is a considerably stronger citation than a placeholder image, and it is the sentence to point at when somebody tells you GTA VI has been rated. The same page reconfirms the release date for PS5 and PS5 Pro as 19 November 2026, and states verbatim that "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience."
Brazil: two platform holders, one game, two different answers on the same day
CONFIRMED as an observed discrepancy. Microsoft's Brazilian catalog record for 9P3H4968GRSM was fetched at 2026-09-10T03:02:11Z, HTTP 200, 15,813 bytes. Its content-ratings block reads, verbatim:
{"RatingSystem": "DJCTQ", "RatingId": "DJCTQ:18", "RatingDescriptors": ["DJCTQ:ExtVio", "DJCTQ:SexCon", "DJCTQ:LegDru"], "RatingDisclaimers": [], "InteractiveElements": []}
A rating of 18 with three descriptors attached. The PlayStation Store's Brazilian page for the same game, fetched ninety seconds later at 2026-09-10T03:03:41Z, HTTP 200, 449,937 bytes, prints ClassInd Rating Pending.
We are reporting the discrepancy as observed and not resolving it. We could not reach the ClassInd register. It is plausible that Microsoft's DJCTQ and IARC values are self-declaration derived from the IARC questionnaire rather than a board decision, which would explain the gap neatly, but that was not verified and we are not printing it as fact.
For completeness, the twelve-system content-ratings block Microsoft returns is byte-identical across all nine markets and all seven GTA VI product IDs: ESRB Rating Pending Mature, PEGI 18P, CERO RP, COB-AU CTC, USK RP, Microsoft E, GAMR 21, NMA-AE 21, DJCTQ 18, IARC 18, PCBP 18 and CCC 18. No GRAC entry in any market, including Korea.
What is and is not established
CONFIRMED: as of 10 September 2026, the ESRB database returns no Grand Theft Auto VI record, PEGI returns "Found 0 results from your query", and USK lists only GTA III Definitive Edition, GTA Online and GTA V.
CONFIRMED: PlayStation's support page states in prose that the age ratings for Grand Theft Auto VI are unconfirmed.
CONFIRMED: ten of twelve PlayStation locales serve a placeholder rating asset. Korea serves GRAC 19+ and Hong Kong serves IARC 18+.
CONFIRMED: Microsoft's Brazilian catalog reads DJCTQ 18 with three descriptors while Sony's Brazilian storefront reads ClassInd Rating Pending, on the same game, on the same day.
UNVERIFIED: when the Korean GRAC 19+ appeared. There is no archive baseline and the GRAC registry could not be queried.
FAILED: the Australian Classification register, HTTP 000 and 0 bytes on two attempts. The GRAC registry, error page or HTTP 400 on every route. The Internet Archive, HTTP 503. No figure from any of the three appears above.
Explicitly not claimed: that Korea has rated the game ahead of anyone else as a matter of sequence. The Korean listing is a separate localised product, and a Korea-first rating on it is unsurprising.
We ran the same sweep at 78 days out and across six boards before that, and the result has not moved. The rest of today's checks are on the news desk.
