"Confirmed": Four Things About GTA 6 That Nobody Actually Confirmed

by 6Charts Team Category: news 16 min read

Five manufactured certainties, each followed back to the source that could not carry it, plus one genuine discovery that has already picked up three different rivers and two different finders in 72 hours. Every viral post is pulled from X's syndication endpoint with an exact timestamp and like count. The Netflix three-episode hoax is disproved with arithmetic we did ourselves: 23 plus 24 plus 18 is 65 minutes, against a measured 26:48. We could not read Instagram, IMDb or Reddit, and we say so rather than writing around it.

Over the past fortnight, four separate things about Grand Theft Auto VI became "confirmed". A voice actor confirmed her own casting. A second voice actor was confirmed by a credits page. Netflix confirmed a three-episode structure. And 1.8 million people confirmably watched the Extended Look on Netflix. None of those four things happened. Rockstar has announced no cast member for this game, has announced no radio station for this game, and Netflix has published no viewing figure for the Extended Look at all. What actually happened is more interesting than any of the claims, and it is the same thing four times: a source that could not carry the weight put on it, an outlet that did not say which source it was using, and a word that nobody checked before repeating. We spent this morning tracing each one back to where it started. Below is what we found, what we could read at the source, and, just as important, the three places we were locked out of and therefore cannot speak to. Did Manni L. Perez confirm she plays Lucia in GTA 6? On 28 August a wave of coverage reported that the actor rumoured to voice Lucia Caminos had confirmed it herself, on Instagram, ending years of fan speculation. On 29 August, TheGamer reported that the Instagram account driving that story is an impersonator. CONFIRMED, read at source. TheGamer's piece, bylined Jade King, carries a JSON-LD datePublished of 2026-08-29T12:14:22Z. We reached it twice, by WebFetch at 2026-08-31T03:04:52Z and again with raw curl at 03:11:30Z, both HTTP 200, and read the full body the second time. Its standfirst reads: "This sort of thing is exactly why Manni Perez deactivated her accounts last year." Its sub-head reads: "No, GTA 6's Lucia Isn't Back On Instagram / The Account Is Riddled With AI-Generated Text And Even Images." King's evidence, quoted from the body we read, with account handles removed by us: The account [...] is trying to impersonate the actor rumoured to be behind Lucia and currently has over 50,000 followers who seem to believe it's actually her. [T]he account she deactivated last year after all the harassment [...] is still inactive and has been for some time. [T]he fake account's username has been changed a whopping 16 times and only joined up in 2020. Running them through GPTZero shows that most of the text is AI-generated. Rockstar hasn't even confirmed that Perez is playing Lucia and likely won't until much closer to release. It definitely wouldn't just be announced on Instagram with little fanfare. Two things need separating here, and most of the coverage has not separated them. Nobody has disproved the casting. The rumour that Perez voices Lucia has been in circulation for a long time, it may well be right, and nothing in this article is evidence either way about it. What is in question is the confirmation, which is a different object entirely. An account claiming to be somebody is not that person confirming anything. We are deliberately not printing handles, links or post identifiers in this article. Perez deleted her accounts in 2025 after harassment from this fanbase, and TheGamer's own standfirst names that as the reason the impersonation works. Sending readers to look at any of it is the same harm wearing a different jacket. Search-index metadata alone shows at least two accounts trading on her identity, one of them titling itself as a Lucia Caminos model account, so the traffic is already there without us adding to it. Which account actually posted the "confirmation"? Nobody has shown us, and we could not find out. This is the open question at the centre of the story. The 28 August confirmation stories we could examine do not say. One, on techtroduce.com, HTTP 200 at 2026-08-31T03:04:52Z, published 28 August, attributes the confirmation to "her Instagram account" and stops there: no handle, no full caption, no link, no verification of the account. Two others, on egw.news and unboxholics.com, both returned HTTP 403 to us at 03:05:46Z, so we could only see them through search surfacing. The egw.news piece is indexed as attributing the confirmation to "her Instagram account" and quoting captions reading "I'm genuinely proud of the journey that brought me here" and "Did you recognize Lucia's voice?". We did not read that page at source and we label it REPORTED. UNVERIFIED, and written as a question on purpose: were those stories sourced from the impersonating account? The circumstantial alignment is strong. TheGamer says the genuine account has been inactive throughout. The confirmation stories name no handle and show no link. TheGamer frames the fake account as having blown up "ever since the big Grand Theft Auto 6 news drop this week". But alignment is not proof, and the one document that would settle it is a screenshot nobody has published showing which profile the caption came from. Here is exactly why we cannot close it ourselves. Instagram is unreadable from our environment. Every profile and post URL we tried returned HTTP 200 with an identical logged-out application shell of roughly 620KB at 2026-08-31T03:04:52Z, and the researcher confirmed that by requesting a handle they invented as a control, which returned the same shell. The specific post embedded in TheGamer's article returned HTTP 200 at 03:11:44Z with an og:description of "Create an account or log in to Instagram" and roughly 412KB of shell. We never saw the post. We are reporting a debunk we read at source and an inference we could not test. Every image on this page is official Rockstar material. Nothing on this page comes from leaked material, and we did not view any. Who plays Jason in GTA 6, and is it confirmed? The same 28 August wave declared Dylan Rourke as Jason. That one has a traceable source, and the source is a page anybody with an account can edit. CONFIRMED, pulled by us from X's syndication endpoint. Three posts carried the claim. All three returned HTTP 200. Via @IMDb", with the two line breaks in the original rendered here as a space. An outlet-branded account using the word "confirmed" with an open wiki given as the citation, in the same post. The Left Down Right Up post, which landed nearly five hours earlier and did 4.7 times the engagement, reads: "The voice actors for both Lucia and Jason have been confirmed / Lucia is MANNI L. PEREZ / Jason is DYLAN ROURKE". Credit where it is due. Two outlets handled this correctly on the same day. Vice, HTTP 200 at 2026-08-31T03:00:20Z, published 28 August, states that Rourke "was recently credited on the IMDb cast page" and warns that "IMDb pages can be edited by users, similar to Wikipedia". SVG, HTTP 200 at 03:01:30Z, also 28 August, is blunter: IMDb credits "carry minimal weight since the platform allows user editing without sourcing requirements", and Rockstar has withheld cast announcements since Grand Theft Auto IV. SVG also lists the rest of the speculative slate, Stephen Root as Brian Heder and Bobby Moynihan as Cal Hampton alongside the two leads, all of it fan voice recognition and none of it announced. The circularity is the whole story. The Rourke claim did not start last week. It started in May 2024 with a YouTuber citing an unnamed "reliable source". Two years later an IMDb credit appeared, and the credit was then reported as confirmation of the rumour. Anyone who had heard the 2024 rumour could have typed that credit in. UNVERIFIED at both ends. What we could not do, stated plainly. We never read the IMDb page. WebFetch returned HTTP 403 at 2026-08-31T03:01:00Z, and curl with a full browser user agent returned HTTP 202 with a zero-byte body, a bot challenge, at 03:01:27Z. We then asked the Wayback Machine for a snapshot, and its availability API returned HTTP 200 at 03:02:21Z with the body {"archived_snapshots": {}}. No snapshot exists, so the date the credit was added to that page cannot be established. If anyone tells you the credit predates the rumour, ask them what they are reading it off. There is also a competing origin claim, in Portuguese, that the cast was revealed in a credits sequence shown only in the Netflix broadcast. That site returned HTTP 200 to us at 03:09:40Z and publishes no screenshot of any credits roll. Two outlets writing the same day on the same subject say the source was IMDb. UNVERIFIED, and treat it as false unless somebody produces the frame. Was the GTA 6 Netflix three episodes listing real? No, and this one we can disprove with arithmetic rather than argument. Around 14 August 2026, a screenshot circulated purporting to show Netflix Portugal listing An Extended Look as three episodes running 23, 24 and 18 minutes. GTA BOOM published a debunk, which we read at HTTP 200 on 2026-08-31T03:04:00Z. Its tell was a layout detail: on a real Netflix page the Episodes section sits above More Details, and in the screenshot it sat below. A sceptic quoted in that piece rebuilt "a cleaner version in about two minutes using browser developer tools". The absence argument in the same piece is the one that should have stopped it on day one: "a leak this big and nobody else managed to grab the same Netflix Portugal page while it was allegedly live screams red flag". Gameranx published an independent debunk reaching the same conclusion. Both are REPORTED; we did not see the original post, because Reddit refused us every route we tried. CONFIRMED, and this is why we can call it settled rather than merely disputed. We measured the thing the hoax was describing. The official YouTube upload of An Extended Look reports lengthSeconds: 1608 in its own videoDetails payload, HTTP 200, scraped at 2026-08-31T03:02:44Z. That is 26 minutes 48 seconds, one video. The hoax described 23 plus 24 plus 18, which is 65 minutes across three. The real thing is 27 minutes. That is not a rounding difference. How many people watched the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix? Netflix has not said. It has published no viewership number for the Extended Look at all. The figure circulating as a Netflix number is 1.8 million, and at least one outlet ran it in a headline as "1.8 million watch on Netflix". Trace it back and 1.8 million is the Twitch concurrent figure during the premiere, up from 881,000 across the same streamers beforehand. It is a co-stream number wearing a Netflix headline. CONFIRMED at primary. The measurement everyone is drawing on is Streams Charts', which we read via the JSON-LD article body on its own page, HTTP 200 at 2026-08-31T03:08:20Z, datePublished 2026-08-28T14:42:00+00:00. Its own first sentence is precise: "Reaction streams to the first Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay presentation peaked at more than 3.97 million viewers across livestreaming platforms." Reaction streams. Across livestreaming platforms. The same analysis gives 9,000+ streamers and 5.2 million hours watched, split by hours watched as Twitch around 44 per cent, YouTube 34.8 per cent and Kick 20.2 per cent, with Spanish streamer Juan Alberto "IlloJuan" Garcia the largest single channel at 233.5K peak viewers, a record for his channel. It beat Summer Game Fest 2026, at a 3.81 million peak. Inven Global, HTTP 200 at 03:07:52Z, published 29 August, states the point flatly: the 3.97 million figure "is not an official viewership or unique viewer count released by Netflix". CONFIRMED as a debunk, because the publisher of the number says so in the same breath as publishing it. The Netflix-adjacent data that does exist is traffic estimation and not viewers: mobile app usage up 50 per cent and web usage up 125 per cent. That reporting sits behind Forbes, which returned HTTP 403 to us at 03:09:00Z, so we label those two figures REPORTED, unread at source. For scale on the piece of this we can verify ourselves: the YouTube upload had 15,014,901 views and 1,395,000 likes when we read its payload at 03:02:44Z, roughly 74 hours after it went live. What radio stations are confirmed in GTA 6? None. Rockstar has announced no radio station for this game. CONFIRMED as an artefact. A twelve-name station list is circulating under the word "confirmed", and the biggest single vector we could verify is a post by @NotiPlay_, a blue-verified Spanish-language PlayStation news account, posted 2026-08-23T17:31:29Z with 3,234 likes, which we pulled at HTTP 200 on 2026-08-31T03:06:57Z. Its opening line translates as "All the radios confirmed in GTA 6 so far". Note the date. It went out four days before the Extended Look aired. We are not reproducing the twelve names. The list is assembled from unauthorised footage of an older development build. Its provenance is what disqualifies it, and naming its contents would simply launder that provenance one step further. That is the beginning and end of what we will say about it. The tracker position is worth quoting, because it makes the problem visible. GTABase, HTTP 200 at 2026-08-31T03:05:20Z, lists sixteen stations under a disclaimer reading: "The full GTA 6 soundtrack and complete radio station tracklists have not been officially revealed yet. For now, this page brings together every song and radio station based on official trailers or leaked discoveries." The page does not mark which entries are which. A reader cannot tell the sourced from the unsourced, which is exactly how twelve names become "confirmed" on their way out of the door. Two names have real grounding in official material, and both are still short of confirmed. V-Rock, because an updated V-Rock logo appears on a t-shirt worn by Jason Duval in Rockstar's own material. GTABase itself hedges that one correctly: Rockstar "has shown the logo on merchandise, but has not formally announced V-Rock as a playable station". Vice City FM, because of an advert on a phone box in the Extended Look, reported in GamesRadar's breakdown by Heather Wald, whose page we reached at HTTP 200 on 2026-08-31T03:10:01Z with a datePublished of 2026-08-28T19:00:00+00:00. We confirmed that article's date and byline and read two of its other findings verbatim from the body; the Vice City FM line itself came to us through search surfacing rather than our own read, so it is REPORTED. Both stations will very probably turn out to exist. Neither has been announced. Is the GTA 6 sandwich advert filmed in Red Dead Redemption 2? Almost certainly yes, and this is the beat that makes the rest of the article worth reading, because it is a real find that got garbled anyway. An in-game television advert in the Extended Look, for a 30,000-calorie sandwich box meal parodying a real fast-food chain, shows livestock grazing in a river valley. Detail-hunters identified the valley as a reused Red Dead Redemption 2 environment. Nobody disputes the finding. Two reputable outlets independently describe the same landmark matching: the curve of the river, two large rocks, and a tree tilting over the water. Now count the versions. Video Games Chronicle, HTTP 200 at 2026-08-31T03:00:20Z, published 28 August, credits an X user sharing comparison screenshots on 27 and 28 August, places the advert at 7:34, and puts the location "just North of Annesburg near where the river bends". TheGamer, HTTP 200 at the same timestamp, credits a Reddit user with 700+ hours in Red Dead Redemption 2 who found it in about five minutes, and puts the location west of Annesburg along the Lannahechee River. Downstream aggregator coverage settles on the Reddit finder, revises the hours to 730, and relocates the scene again, to a U-shaped bend in the Kamassa River northwest of Annesburg. The Kamassa runs past Annesburg. The Lannahechee is the larger river to the south. They are not the same water. So: three rivers, two finders, two platforms, two hour counts, seventy-two hours. Every element of this is REPORTED at best. We could not verify either attribution ourselves. The X post is unreachable, because every nitter mirror we tried is dead: nitter.net returned HTTP 200 with an 11.5KB shell and no timeline, xcancel.com returned HTTP 200 at 321 bytes, and nitter.poast.org returned HTTP 000 through a proxy 502, all at 2026-08-31T03:00:32Z. The Reddit post is unreachable because Reddit refused every route: /r/GTA6/top.json at HTTP 403 (02:59:16Z), the old.reddit and api.reddit equivalents at HTTP 403 (02:59:38Z), the web route refused outright at 03:04:00Z, and three redlib mirrors at HTTP 403 with a fourth returning a 4KB stub, all at 03:04:32Z. We run both attributions and we pick neither, because we have no basis to pick. That is the honest position, and it is also the point: if a discovery this small and this charming acquires three geographies inside three days, consider what happens to a claim that somebody actively wants to be true. What is and is not established CONFIRMED, read at source at 03:11:30Z: TheGamer, bylined Jade King, dated 2026-08-29T12:14:22Z, reports that the Instagram account behind the Lucia "confirmation" is an impersonator with over 50,000 followers, 16 username changes, an account created in 2020, and text that GPTZero flags as largely AI-generated. Explicitly not claimed: that Manni L. Perez does not voice Lucia. Nobody has disproved the casting. Only the confirmation is in question, and Rockstar has announced no cast member for this game. UNVERIFIED, and posed as an open question: whether the 28 August confirmation stories were sourced from that account. No outlet naming the confirmation specifies a handle, and Instagram returned an identical logged-out shell for every URL we tried at 03:04:52Z, including for a control handle we invented. CONFIRMED, from X's syndication endpoint: three posts carried the Jason claim, the largest at 14,343 likes on 2026-08-28T14:06:29Z, and a business-verified outlet account used the word "confirmed" while citing IMDb in the same post. Could not be established: the date the Dylan Rourke credit was added to IMDb. IMDb returned HTTP 403 and HTTP 202 to us, and Wayback holds no snapshot of the page, returning an empty archived_snapshots object at 03:02:21Z. CONFIRMED by measurement: the three-episode Netflix listing was fabricated. The real upload is one video of 1,608 seconds, 26 minutes 48 seconds, read from its own payload at 03:02:44Z, against a claimed 23 plus 24 plus 18 equalling 65 minutes. CONFIRMED: "1.8 million watched on Netflix" is a Twitch concurrent figure. Netflix has published no viewership number, and the 3.97 million peak is reaction-stream viewership across platforms, as its own publisher states. CONFIRMED as an artefact, and its contents withheld: a twelve-name radio list circulates as "confirmed" behind a verified account post dated four days before the Extended Look aired. Its provenance is unauthorised footage. Only V-Rock and Vice City FM have any official-material grounding, and both are REPORTED rather than confirmed. REPORTED and deliberately unresolved: the Red Dead Redemption 2 advert location. Two outlets, two finders, three rivers, two hour counts. We verified neither attribution and picked neither. Access failures printed rather than papered over: Instagram, IMDb and Reddit were all unreadable to us, and three of this article's five threads would be stronger if any of them had opened. What all five have in common is a missing sentence rather than an excess of credulity. Every one of these stories would have survived contact with the line "here is the account, here is the link, here is the timestamp". Our own working is published for the same reason, on the news desk and in the wiki, which holds the running version of what is actually established about this game. If you would rather spend the next 80 days doing something than reading something, the servers list and the events calendar are both open.
