Rockstar Is Hiring Anti-Cheat Engineers and FiveM Developers
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news13 min read
Two researchers pulled Rockstar's public Greenhouse board independently on July 30, 2026 and both got 79 open roles. Here is the anti-cheat cluster, the ten Creator Platform roles covering FiveM and RedM, the requisition-ID trap that inflates these stories, and why zero listings mention GTA 6.
Rockstar publishes its open roles through Greenhouse, which means the hiring board comes with machine-readable timestamps anyone can re-pull and check. Two of our researchers hit the same endpoint independently on July 30, 2026 and got the same figure: 79 open roles. Two clusters inside that 79 are worth a reader's time, one on game security and anti-cheat, one on the Creator Platform group that owns Cfx.re, FiveM and RedM.
The most important sentence first. Not one of the 79 listings mentions Grand Theft Auto VI, GTA VI, GTA 6 or Grand Theft Auto 6. That was grep-checked across every posting and returned zero hits. Every connection drawn below between this hiring and GTA 6 is timing and inference, and we will keep saying so as we go.
The endpoint, for anyone repeating the exercise, is https://boards-api.greenhouse.io/v1/boards/rockstargames/jobs?content=true. It returned HTTP 200 with meta.total of 79 on July 30, 2026. Greenhouse boards change daily, so treat that as a snapshot of that date.
The counting problem, before any numbers
There is a trap in job board reporting that swallows a lot of coverage, so here it is up front. Duplicate location postings share one requisition ID. The clearest example on this board is Senior Game Security Operations Manager, which appears three times, in London, Dundee and Leeds, all three carrying requisition R_118335. That is most plausibly one to three hires being sourced across three studios, not three separate teams standing up. Reading listing counts as headcount inflates this kind of story badly.
Our two researchers also disagreed on the size of the security cluster, which is worth showing rather than hiding. One counted 11 security roles on a narrow definition. The other counted 15 by including threat intelligence and application security. Neither is wrong. They are different boundary decisions about what counts as game security, and once the shared requisition IDs are folded in, no single headline number deserves to be printed as fact. What follows is the list with the dates, so readers can draw their own line.
The game security and anti-cheat cluster
The two listings drawing the most attention are both titled Senior Cheat Software Engineer, one in Dundee and one in Edinburgh, both first published July 14, 2026 and both updated July 24. They share requisition R_118263, so by the same counting rule set out below they are one requisition advertised in two cities rather than two separate hires.
The title misleads people, so the correction goes here rather than at the bottom. This is defensive work. Rockstar's own description reads: "The Rockstar Games Cheat Software Engineering Team supports the entire cheat lifecycle including discovery, technical breakdown, reproduction, root cause analysis and remediation." The responsibilities are to "Reverse engineer, analyse, debug, and document application behaviours", to "Develop, fine-tune, and support anti-cheat measures and in-game abuse prevention systems", to "Drive root cause analysis efforts behind internally and publicly identified vulnerabilities", and to "Identify gaps in anti-cheat capabilities and detection workflows in order to drive development efforts to improve our overall security posture." Rockstar is hiring people to take other people's cheats apart, not to build cheats.
The requirements ask for "5+ years professional, academic, or research experience in reverse engineering software/malware analysis" and "Experience circumventing various anti-analysis and anti-debugging techniques." Among the pluses is "Experience analysing Windows kernel internals, including memory management, system calls, and driver interactions".
That kernel line has been headlined elsewhere as evidence of kernel-level anti-cheat in GTA 6. Two reasons not to run with it: it is a plus rather than a requirement, and GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, where Windows kernel expertise has no application. The more plausible read is that it relates to Rockstar's PC titles, GTAV Enhanced included, which is where the company's Windows anti-cheat problem lives.
The rest of the cluster, with first publication dates from the board on July 30, 2026:
Senior Game Security Operations Manager, requisition R_118335, three listings: London published July 22, 2026, Dundee July 21, Leeds July 21.
Game Security Analyst, Dundee, July 7, 2026, requisition R_118318.
Project Manager: Game Security, Edinburgh, July 8, 2026, requisition R_118319.
Senior Application Security Platform Engineer, Manhattan, July 1, 2026, requisition R_118175.
Associate Principal Threat Intelligence Analyst, five locations, all published June 26, 2026, requisition R_118118.
Application Security Engineer, Dundee published February 25, 2026 and Leeds June 24, 2026.
The Game Security team describes its own remit this way: "The Game Security team is responsible for protecting our players, our games, and intellectual property from malicious actors." It adds: "We work across multiple disciplines to detect, deter, and disrupt threats impacting the player experience." The Game Security Analyst listing says the hire "will be a frontline defender committed to ensuring our games and services remain secure and enjoyable by protecting against cheaters, exploits, and account compromise".
The intellectual property clause is Rockstar's own wording, and it is also where inference starts, so we will flag it. Some readers will connect that clause to Cfx.re's asset escrow enforcement against resource piracy. Rockstar has drawn no such connection, the listing does not mention escrow, FiveM or Cfx.re, and we are naming that as our own speculation rather than reporting it.
The Creator Platform cluster, ten roles
The second cluster matters more directly to anybody who runs or plays on a community server. The Creator Platform group owns Cfx.re, and therefore FiveM and RedM. Ten listings sat in it on the July 30 board, carrying five distinct requisition IDs between them, so the group is smaller than the listing count suggests.
Two listings are engineering roles specifically for FiveM, both under requisition R_118173. One is in London, first published July 16, 2026 at 04:54:14 Eastern and updated July 27, 2026 at 05:57:29 Eastern. The other is in Leeds, first published June 17, 2026 and updated July 27, 2026. Both are London and Leeds roles, not Rockstar North in Edinburgh, and that distinction has been muddled elsewhere.
Those two listings are the only ones on the entire 79-role board carrying an updated_at of July 27, 2026. Every other opening shows July 24. That is an odd little detail, and it is worth almost nothing on its own. updated_at means the record was edited. It does not mean the role is new, that the description changed, that the salary band moved, or that anything happened beyond somebody saving the record. We are reporting a dated edit to two listings and stopping there.
What the listings say about the work is more substantial. Rockstar writes that it "is on the lookout for a talented Software Engineer who possesses a strong interest in all the low-level technology that makes a modern video game tick to support the Cfx.re creator platforms, including FiveM and RedM." The team states its mandate this way: "The Rockstar Creator Platform Team deliver a technology platform that enables players to experience community created content on fully customized dedicated servers where creators can develop their own game modes and other modifications in a variety of scripting languages." Elsewhere: "We create technology, tools, and solutions to enhance the creator experience and empower our community to create and share any experience imaginable."
That "fully customized dedicated servers" phrase describes FiveM and RedM as they exist today. Coverage in early July slid into presenting it as a GTA 6 feature announcement. It is a description of a platform that has been running for years, written to hire somebody to work on it.
The FiveM job is release engineering, and that is the interesting part
Read the responsibilities on the FiveM engineer listings and they are not feature development. They are release discipline: "Support software release processes across multiple branches, coordinating with production and engineering teams to ensure readiness and a high standard of quality."; "Drive release planning, deployment, and rollback procedures."; "Monitor platform health, performance metrics and operational KPIs post-release, helping drive issue resolution and continuous improvement."
The requirements match that framing, asking for "5+ years of experience on a software development team using C++" and proficiency with "GitLab and/or GitHub, including their CI/CD systems." Among the pluses are "Experience with or interest in UGC" and "Experience with security engineering."
Why that matters right now is visible in public. On July 29, 2026, Cfx shipped Early Access Hotfix 6 for FiveM for GTAV Enhanced through the public citizenfx/rfc GitHub discussions, entry 312. The notes state: "This patch changes the connection handshake, so server owners need to update to the latest Cfx Server build." and "Clients on this build will not be able to connect to servers running an older build." Hotfix 6 also fixed the ox_lib console flood that was hitting qbx_core and ox_inventory.
A handshake change that hard-splits clients from servers on older builds is exactly the class of problem release planning, staged deployment and rollback procedure exist to manage. Rockstar is advertising for the capability currently under load. That is our read, offered as analysis, and it is the most grounded thing in the story because both halves of it are public and dated.
The rest of the group, and which parts are actually new
The other eight Creator Platform roles all show an updated_at of July 24, 2026: Product Manager, Creator Platform in London and Manhattan, both first published July 6, 2026; Senior Developer Relations Manager in London and Manhattan, both May 12, 2026; Senior Developer Advocate in London and Manhattan, both May 8, 2026; and Senior Manager, Product for Creator Platform in London, published April 16, 2026, and Manhattan, published March 13, 2026. Several are months old and have simply been refreshed, so presenting a March listing as part of a July hiring push would be wrong. The genuinely new July items in this group are the two Product Manager posts of July 6 and the London FiveM engineer of July 16.
One Product Manager listing gives the clearest statement of intent in the group: "This role focuses on advancing platform capabilities, increasing player engagement, and supporting creator success through practical creator tools, live service iteration, and operational excellence."
What the listings do and do not say needs setting out precisely, because this is where coverage of the Creator Platform group tends to go wrong in both directions. None of the ten mentions a console. There is no "SixM" anywhere on the board, no named successor to FiveM, and the phrase "revenue sharing" does not appear.
A creator economy, though, is very much on the page in Rockstar's own words, and any report claiming otherwise has not read the listings. The two Senior Developer Advocate posts and the two Senior Developer Relations Manager posts all state: "We provide a curated digital storefront, the Cfx Marketplace, where talented GTAV and RDR2 creators can share and sell custom scripts, assets, and more." The Senior Developer Relations Manager listings describe the remit as covering "the FiveM and RedM multiplayer modification platforms as well as the Cfx Marketplace".
The two Senior Manager, Product listings go further. They state: "We create tools and services that empower creators to build, publish, operate, grow, and monetize their experiences." They ask the hire to "Identify opportunities and challenges across the creator ecosystem, including creation tools, publishing, moderation, discovery, operations, and monetization." One listed requirement is "Experience with digital economies, marketplaces, or monetized ecosystems where pricing, incentives, and supply dynamics influence user behavior." The two Product Manager listings cover the creator lifecycle "from onboarding and publishing to retention, discovery, and monetization". Across the ten listings the word marketplace appears 18 times and monetisation in its American spelling 12 times.
So a creator monetisation platform is something Rockstar has written down, and we were wrong to expect otherwise before reading it. What no listing does is attach any of it to GTA 6, name a console, or announce a new product. The Cfx Marketplace has been running for years, and on the evidence of the board these are hires to operate and extend it rather than to build something unannounced.
Confirmed, reported and unconfirmed
Confirmed (Rockstar's public Greenhouse board, retrieved independently by two researchers on July 30, 2026): meta.total of 79 open roles, and every listing, date and requisition ID given above, including the two Senior Cheat Software Engineer posts of July 14, 2026 and the three Senior Game Security Operations Manager posts all carrying R_118335.
Confirmed (same retrieval): Ten Creator Platform roles, including Senior Software Engineer, FiveM, London (R_118173, published July 16, 2026, updated July 27) and Leeds (published June 17, 2026, updated July 27). Those two are the only listings on the board with an updated_at of July 27; all others show July 24.
Confirmed (Rockstar's own listing text): All quotations above, including the cheat lifecycle description, the anti-cheat responsibilities, the Game Security remit covering "our players, our games, and intellectual property", the Creator Platform mandate covering "fully customized dedicated servers", the release engineering responsibilities and the Product Manager scope.
Confirmed (citizenfx/rfc GitHub discussions, entry 312, July 29, 2026): Early Access Hotfix 6 for FiveM for GTAV Enhanced changed the connection handshake, with the notes stating server owners must update and that "Clients on this build will not be able to connect to servers running an older build." It also fixed the ox_lib console flood affecting qbx_core and ox_inventory.
Confirmed by absence: No listing mentions Grand Theft Auto VI, GTA VI, GTA 6 or Grand Theft Auto 6. A pattern match across all 79 postings returned zero hits. None of the ten Creator Platform listings mentions a console, a FiveM successor or a "SixM", and the phrase "revenue sharing" does not appear.
Confirmed present, contrary to how we first read it: Rockstar's Creator Platform listings do name the Cfx Marketplace and do use the words monetize, monetization, commerce and digital economies. Marketplace appears 18 times across the ten listings and monetisation 12 times. A creator economy is in Rockstar's own text, and nothing in that text ties it to GTA 6.
Counting caveat, stated rather than resolved: One researcher counted 11 security roles on a narrow definition, the other 15 including threat intelligence and application security. Duplicate location postings share one requisition ID, so the three Senior Game Security Operations Manager listings are one to three hires and not three teams. Board-wide the 79 postings resolve to 50 requisition IDs, with one posting carrying none. The ten Creator Platform listings are five requisitions, and the two Senior Cheat Software Engineer listings are one, R_118263. No single headline number is reliable.
Our analysis, labelled as such: That the FiveM engineer brief being release engineering rather than feature work maps onto the July 29 Hotfix 6 handshake break, which is the kind of incident release planning and rollback procedure exist to handle.
Our speculation, labelled as such: Any link between game security hiring and Cfx.re asset escrow enforcement. The Game Security remit does mention intellectual property, which is Rockstar's own wording, but Rockstar has drawn no such connection and no listing mentions escrow, FiveM or Cfx.re in that context.
Not confirmed: Any anti-cheat design for GTA 6. The Windows kernel internals line is a plus rather than a requirement, and GTA 6 is console-only at launch, so it most plausibly relates to PC titles including GTAV Enhanced. Also not confirmed: what the July 27 edits to the two FiveM listings changed, actual headcount behind any requisition, any GTA 6 community server or roleplay support, and any creator monetisation programme.
Job boards are a weak signal read carelessly and a strong one read carefully, and the difference is entirely in whether you separate Rockstar's words from your own conclusions. The numbers above were true on July 30, 2026 and will drift. GTA 6 releases November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We will keep pulling the board on our news hub, and you can see which communities are already building for launch on our servers list.
