GTA 6 Unlocks at Midnight Local Time in 14 Markets Checked
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news5 min read
Every market we checked lands on local midnight, and the evidence is in the timestamps themselves: India unlocks at 18:30:00Z, a half hour offset no global instant could produce. We publish the full table in UTC and local time with standard edition prices, plus our own conversions for US and Australian time zones outside the reference clock. Pre-order pricing in each market is scheduled to expire one second before that market's own unlock. These are storefront catalog timestamps, not a Rockstar statement, and we say so throughout.
GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time, wherever you are. Every one of the 14 markets we pulled out of Microsoft's public product catalog on 21 August 2026 resolves to 00:00 on 19 November 2026 on that market's own clock, which means New Zealand starts 19 hours before Mexico and there is no single worldwide switch to wait for.
The caveat belongs here in the second paragraph rather than buried at the bottom. These are storefront catalog timestamps. Rockstar has published no unlock-time statement anywhere, Microsoft has changed preload and unlock behaviour before, and a publisher can override a storefront with a server-side gate on the day. What follows is what the stores currently have scheduled. That is the best evidence anyone has today, and it is not a promise from Rockstar.
What time does GTA 6 unlock in your country?
CONFIRMED. Retrieved 21 August 2026 from Microsoft's public displaycatalog API at displaycatalog.mp.microsoft.com, querying the GTA 6 product IDs 9P3H4968GRSM and 9NNZSNHLR63L once per market with fieldsTemplate=Details. HTTP 200 in every market below. The field is MarketProperties[0].OriginalReleaseDate. The local column is our own arithmetic on the returned instant, checked by hand row by row, and the price column is the standard edition list price as the catalog holds it for that market.

Fourteen markets, fourteen local midnights. The United Arab Emirates record is denominated in US dollars in the catalog itself, which is why it carries a dollar figure rather than a dirham one.
The half hour that proves these are local, not global
India's instant is 2026-11-18T18:30:00Z. Look at that :30 for a moment. Every other market in the table lands on the hour. A single worldwide unlock instant, pushed out to all storefronts at once, cannot produce a half past timestamp in one market and an on the hour timestamp in the other thirteen. The only thing that generates a :30 is a clock that sits half an hour off UTC, and India's does, at UTC+5:30. Add five and a half hours to 18:30 and you get exactly midnight.
That single character is the strongest evidence in the whole dataset. Rockstar and its storefront partners set these per market, against each market's own local calendar, and the catalog is showing the seams.
Nineteen hours from first to last
New Zealand goes first at 11:00 UTC on 18 November. Mexico goes last at 06:00 UTC on 19 November. We counted the gap by hand rather than taking it on trust: 11:00 to midnight UTC is 13 hours, then midnight to 06:00 is another six. Nineteen hours between the first player who can legitimately start and the last.
For most of a full day on 18 and 19 November, some part of the world will be playing GTA 6 while another part cannot. If you care about avoiding spoilers, that is the window to plan around.
Midnight where, exactly? One clock per market, not per time zone
This is the detail that will catch people out. The catalog carries one instant per market, not one per time zone, so "midnight local" means midnight on the market's reference clock. Everyone else in that country converts from the same moment. These conversions are ours, done from the confirmed instants above.
United States, from 2026-11-19T05:00:00Z: 00:00 Eastern on 19 November, 23:00 Central on 18 November, 22:00 Mountain on 18 November, 21:00 Pacific on 18 November. West coast players get it on the evening of the 18th.
Australia, from 2026-11-18T13:00:00Z: 00:00 AEDT on 19 November in Sydney and Melbourne, 23:30 in Adelaide, 23:00 in Brisbane, 21:00 in Perth, all on 18 November.
Nobody is waiting longer than their eastern compatriots. Everybody west of the reference clock unlocks earlier by their own watch.
PlayStation's catalog carries the identical instant
CONFIRMED, second storefront. We pulled the PlayStation Store product page for EP1004-PPSA01547_00-GTAVISTANDARD001, HTTP 200 at 442,572 bytes. Its embedded Apollo cache carries "releaseDate":"2026-11-19T05:00:00Z" and the rendered release date field reads 11/19/2026. That is byte for byte the same instant Microsoft holds for the US market. The PS5 title ID is PPSA01547 and the concept ID is 10000730.
Two storefronts, run by two companies, agreeing on the same second. That does not make it Rockstar's word, and we are not going to pretend otherwise, but it does rule out one storefront simply mis-parsing a date.
Pre-order prices are scheduled to die at the unlock second
CONFIRMED. Each market's pre-order price availability record carries an EndDate exactly one second before that same market's release instant. The US pre-order price ends at 2026-11-19T04:59:59.0000000Z. India's ends at 2026-11-18T18:29:59.0000000Z. The half hour offset follows the pricing record too.
Read literally, that is a pricing window hard-scheduled to expire at the moment the game unlocks, per market. It is also the second independent field in Microsoft's own data that lines up with local midnight rather than a global instant, which is why we are printing it.
Rockstar's own page gives a date and no time at all
CONFIRMED NEGATIVE. A researcher pulled rockstargames.com/VI at 964,296 bytes. It carries the line "Grand Theft Auto VI is Now Set to Launch November 19, 2026". There is no time of day anywhere on the page. Rockstar has published a date and left the hour to the storefronts.
So the honest framing for every headline you will see this week is "the storefronts say midnight local", not "Rockstar confirms midnight local". Those are different claims and only one of them is supported.
What we still do not know
Whether Rockstar will gate the game server-side on top of the storefront unlock. Publishers do this. Nothing in the catalog would show it.
When preload opens on either platform. The catalog records we read carry release instants and pricing windows, not preload windows.
Whether the markets we did not pull follow the same pattern. We checked 14 and all 14 held, and we are not extrapolating past that.
Whether these timestamps survive to November. They have three months to change, and storefront metadata changes quietly.
Anything about PC. No PC storefront listing exists to read.
We will re-pull all 14 markets closer to launch and publish any timestamp that moves, byte counts and HTTP codes attached, on our news page. If you are working out where you will actually be playing once your own midnight arrives, our servers list is the place to start.
