The GTA 6 20 November Cliff, and What Upgrading to Ultimate Later Actually Costs
by 6Charts TeamCategory: news8 min read
Every figure here is first-party and stamped with the second we read it. Then the upgrade question, answered with a ten-market price sweep pulled at 03:09:05Z: Microsoft prices the standalone Ultimate Edition Upgrade at exactly the Standard to Ultimate gap in all ten, so waiting costs Xbox buyers nothing. On PlayStation the same add-on returns a price of "Unavailable" and renders "Pre-Order Unavailable", which is ordinary before launch and is not a cancellation. We have deliberately not built a cheapest-country table, and we explain why.
There are two dates attached to Grand Theft Auto VI, and only one of them is on the posters. The game releases on 19 November 2026. The bonus content attached to buying it expires at the end of 19 November, because Rockstar's condition is that you purchase before 20 November.
That distinction matters more than it looks, and in a way that mostly favours buyers. The wording on both storefronts is "all digital purchases" made before 20 November, not "all pre-orders". The bonus survives launch day itself. Buy on the 20th and it is gone.
Below is what you get, the two different deadlines by which you have to claim it, the eight countries cut out of half of it, and then a separate question we can answer with data: whether buying the Standard edition now and upgrading later costs you anything. On Xbox it does not, in all ten markets we sampled. On PlayStation you cannot buy the upgrade at all today.
What do you get for buying GTA 6 before 20 November?
CONFIRMED, self-fetched. Rockstar's own store page returned HTTP 200 at 956,855 bytes at 2026-08-31T03:00:04Z. Its hero call to action reads, verbatim from the page data:
Order before November 20 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack at no additional cost*
Microsoft's base game record, product 9NL3WWNZLZZN, states it as two items, verbatim:
Purchase prior to November 20 to receive: -The Vintage Vice City Pack -One Month of GTA+ [...] Limited to one redemption per Platform Account.
And the Vintage Vice City Pack's own record, product 9PLVSSH8849X, contains the sentence that most coverage has missed, verbatim:
The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with all digital purchases of Grand Theft Auto VI made prior to November 20, 2026.
All digital purchases, not all pre-orders. If you buy the game at nine in the evening on 19 November, on that reading you are inside the window. We would still not cut it that fine, because storefront cutoffs are enforced in a specific timezone that neither company has published for this offer, and "prior to November 20" in whose local time is not stated anywhere we could find.
What is in the Vintage Vice City Pack?
Three line items, from the Microsoft copy and Rockstar's own comparison table: a '55 Vapid Stanier with the Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach, Jason's pastel linen suit and Lucia's red sequin mini dress with period hairstyles, and one exclusive weapon pattern. That is the entire pack. We ran the full inventory of what Rockstar's store copy names across both packs separately, and it is on the news desk.
How do you redeem the free month of GTA+, and by when?
The two platforms give different answers, and we are printing both without picking one, because both are first-party statements.
CONFIRMED, from Rockstar's own FAQ under the heading "How do I redeem my free month of GTA+?", verbatim:
If you have pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto VI from PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store before November 20, 2026, then you are eligible to redeem this offer.
PlayStation: "Must redeem on PlayStation Store by March 31, 2027." Xbox: "Must redeem within 180 days after your purchase of GTAVI." Sony's own page repeats the hard date: "You need to complete these steps by March 31, 2027, to claim the offer."
Those are genuinely different mechanics. One is a fixed calendar deadline that gets shorter the later you buy. The other is a rolling window that starts on your purchase date. If you buy on 19 November, 180 days lands you around 18 May 2027, so the Xbox window is the more generous of the two for a late buyer, and the PlayStation deadline is the one to diarise.
Which countries are excluded from the GTA+ offer?
CONFIRMED, verbatim from the FAQ on PlayStation's official Grand Theft Auto VI page, HTTP 200 at 358,060 bytes at 2026-08-31T03:07:20Z:
Eligible Consumers: [...] All PlayStation Country Stores, excluding Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Russian Federation, Taiwan.
Eight territories. Note the scope precisely: this exclusion is on the GTA+ month, and it is a PlayStation list. It is not a statement about who can buy the game, and it is not Rockstar excluding anybody from the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Two further conditions, both CONFIRMED. From the PlayStation Ultimate Edition Upgrade page, HTTP 200 at 315,281 bytes at 03:05:21Z: "The GTA subscription incentive can only be redeemed once per account, regardless of additional purchases." Buying both editions, or buying on two accounts, does not get you two months. And from Sony's own FAQ: "If you are an existing GTA+ subscriber, the month will be added onto your existing subscription after the offer is claimed."
Does the free GTA+ month auto-renew?
Yes, and Sony says so on the buy button. The product badge reads: "1-month GTA+ subscription with pre-order. Auto-renews." The FAQ expands it, verbatim:
The on-screen instructions will make it clear on what date your one month of GTA+ will continue into a paid monthly subscription. If you do not want your GTA+ subscription to continue after that date, simply visit Subscriptions Management in your account settings to cancel...
This is disclosed clearly and it is still the single easiest thing in this article to be caught by, because the charge arrives a month after a launch you will have stopped thinking about. If you claim the month, set a reminder on the same day.
Every image on this page is official Rockstar material. Nothing on this page comes from leaked material, and we did not view any.
Can you buy GTA 6 Standard now and upgrade to Ultimate later?
Rockstar says yes, in both directions. From its store page, verbatim: "Purchased the game? Upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store at any time." The same sentence appears for the Microsoft Store.
And on Xbox, the price data says it costs you nothing extra to wait. We pulled the Standard edition, the Ultimate edition and the standalone Ultimate Edition Upgrade from Microsoft's catalogue in ten markets in a single sweep, each returning HTTP 200 at roughly 109,880 to 109,991 bytes, at 2026-08-31T03:09:05Z. In every one of the ten, the upgrade is priced at exactly the gap between the two editions.

Secondary reads from the same sweep, also CONFIRMED: South Korea 89,800 won, South Africa R1,499, Mexico MX$1,499 and the United Arab Emirates $79.99 in US dollars.
Do not read this table as a cheapest-country league. It is not one, and we have deliberately not built one. Tax treatment differs across these markets: UK, EU and Australian prices include VAT or GST, and the US price does not. Converting these figures into a single currency and ranking them would compare unlike with unlike. What the table does support is a narrow, useful claim: within each market, the upgrade costs the difference, so there is no financial penalty on Xbox for buying Standard first and deciding later.
Why can PlayStation owners not buy the Ultimate upgrade?
CONFIRMED, and phrased carefully. The same add-on product exists on PlayStation. Its price is not.
The Apollo cache on PlayStation's US product page, from the 03:07:20Z fetch, carries the entry for the Ultimate Edition Upgrade with "price":{"discountedPrice":"Unavailable","basePrice":"Unavailable","isFree":false}, and the rendered Add-Ons row reads "Pre-Order Unavailable". The en-GB store page for the same product, HTTP 200 at 315,281 bytes at 03:05:21Z, carries a JSON-LD offer object with no price field at all, where the Standard edition's equivalent carries "price":69.99,"priceCurrency":"GBP".
This is not a cancellation and we are not writing it as one. An add-on showing as unavailable on the PlayStation Store before a game launches is ordinary, and these listings usually flip on release day. Rockstar's own FAQ says the upgrade path will exist on PlayStation. The accurate statement is that as of 03:07:20Z on 31 August, the PlayStation upgrade is not purchasable, and a PlayStation buyer choosing Standard today is taking Rockstar's word that the upgrade will appear, where an Xbox buyer can already see the price.
What is and is not established
CONFIRMED, self-fetched at 03:00:04Z, HTTP 200 at 956,855 bytes: Rockstar's store states "Order before November 20 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack at no additional cost", and Microsoft's record extends it to "all digital purchases" made before 20 November, not only pre-orders.
CONFIRMED, and different on each platform: the GTA+ month must be redeemed on PlayStation by 31 March 2027, and on Xbox within 180 days of purchase. Both are first-party statements and we picked neither as the correct one.
CONFIRMED: the GTA+ offer excludes Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, the Russian Federation and Taiwan, is limited to one redemption per account, stacks onto an existing subscription, and auto-renews into a paid monthly plan.
CONFIRMED across ten markets at 03:09:05Z, HTTP 200 each: Microsoft prices the standalone Ultimate Edition Upgrade at exactly the Standard to Ultimate gap in every market sampled, so there is no penalty on Xbox for upgrading later.
Deliberately not built: a cheapest-country comparison. Tax inclusion differs across these markets, so cross-currency ranking would be misleading.
CONFIRMED as a state, not as a decision: the PlayStation upgrade add-on returns a price of "Unavailable" and renders "Pre-Order Unavailable". That is ordinary before launch, Rockstar's FAQ says the upgrade will exist, and we say not purchasable today rather than cancelled.
Not stated by anyone: which timezone the "prior to November 20" cutoff is enforced in. We could not find it on any first-party page.
Prices are a snapshot. Every figure above is stamped with the second we read it and can change before launch.
The useful summary is short. Buy at any point up to the end of 19 November and the bonus is yours; claim the GTA+ month promptly and cancel it the same day if you do not want it; and on Xbox, waiting to upgrade costs nothing. More of this week's storefront work is on the news desk, the confirmed-content tally is on the wiki, and the servers list is filling up ahead of launch night.
